SAVE THE BRACEBRIDGE WETLANDS

 GET INFORMED

▸ The Royal Muskoka Development Inc. wants permission to build on 443 acres of untouched wetlands.

▸ The proposal is to build an international private boarding school.

▸ The build would consist of a 4 storey high, 5 precinct school with a sports complex, dormitory facilities,

pavilions, parking lots and water/sewer infrastructure would be installed.

 WHY ARE WETLANDS SO IMPORTANT?

▸ Wetlands are home to over 600 species of plants, animals and insects.

▸ Without them, some threatened and endangered species would not exist.

▸ They help to fight climate change as their soils can store carbon for hundreds of years.

▸ They act as a pollution filter and clean drinking water depends on healthy wetlands.

▸ Wetlands provide effective flooding control, storm protection and can act as a wind buffer.
 BUT WHY IS THIS A PROBLEM?

▸ Up to 70% of the wetlands in Canada have already

been destroyed or degraded.

▸ The wetlands in Bracebridge are home to 204

species of wildlife.

▸ 20 species that call our wetlands home are of

conservation concern and 7 are threatened or

endangered under the Species at Risk Act.

▸ Destroying the wetlands could lead to increased

flooding.

▸ Decreased protection from water pollution

▸ Email the Town of Bracebridge following the instructions on

the website above.

▸ Attend the zoom meeting October 27th at 2pm.
