Background of the Study

Among the social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter,


and Instagram seem to be used frequently. It is
questioned whether social media has any negative effect
on individuals who used them often (Dion, 2016).

Numerous studies have also shown that social media


use causes individuals to create negative social
comparisons with the people they follow or are friends
with on social media websites, which leads to negative
effects on self-report.

Conclusion

• The general perception of students on their self-

esteem is moderately low.

• Facebook affects the student the most.

• The null hypothesis is accepted.


Recommendation

A. Community:
• Students must keep the limitation within the use of social
media.
• Parents should also be responsible and be aware of how their
children are coping up.
• Teachers should raise the morale of students and make them
more confident in their conduct.

• Include a more efficient way of assessing social media use.
• Indication as to why a relationship exists between self-
esteem and social media use.
• Try to look into the difference of social media use between
males and females.
