The Need Of Adaptive Control System In CNC
Millling Machine

 Adaptive control in CNC machines is the continuous monitoring of

cutting load and automatic adjustment of cutting feed rate based on
the load.
 To program the safest feed rates to accommodate the worst machining
and materials conditions.
 Automatically adjust the feedrate in real-time as material and tooling
conditions change.
 To adapt with variation in material, tooling and depth of cut.
z
Advantages Of Adaptive Control System CNC
Millling Machine

 Decrease in cycle time which lead to more productivity.

 Longer machine uptime, especially with difficult to machines materials.
 To lengthen the cutting tools life span before wears out and reduce
machining costs.
 Reduce the operator’s workloads.
z
Example of Application

 During machining, the cutting load may increase due to hard

spots, variation in the height of raw material or the tools wear out.
 Adaptive control functions when the normal load is set. If the load
reduces, the feed rates increases.
 If the load increases, the feed rate reduces to bring the load back
to the normal level.
 We can set the lower and upper limits of feed rate. The adaptive
control logic will increase or reduce the feed rate within this range,
and not go beyond the range.
