Significance of Study
The outcome of our findings will generally benefits the college residents especially in UiTM
Shah Alam. One of it is they will get to solve the small problems that always bothering
college residents all this while. This would make colleges or hostels inside the university to
become a good choice for students in UiTM Shah Alam to live in. Besides, this study would
also be very helpful for the residents to have convenient facilities that will affect them to
excel in their academics. Thus, shows that the comfort of living places play an important role
in life as a student. Next, this research could be a reference for other researchers in the future
that want to study about college. So, this would be a helping hand for them to give some
information about this topic.

6. Previous Studies

Amina Iftikhar (2016) in her studies on ‘Impact of Hostel Life’ said that students indicated
that hostels have a great importance in our country as they provide shelter to students, and it
also reduces the distance to educational institutions. It provides an opportunity for students to
continue the process of education. It provides an ideal environment for study. Female hostel
student stated about hostel that “Hostel is a place where students stay for a limited period,
and pay for the accommodation facilities. Most of the educational institutions have hostel. It
helps those students who are not able to come daily from their homes to educational
institutions.” Thus, her studies clearly shows that hostels have an important role to student’s
life.

The results on ‘Students Satisfaction with Hostel Facilities in Nigerian Polytechnics’

by Patricia Toyin Sawyerr (2013) showed that students were generally dissatisfied with the
hostel facilities with a mean score of 2.42 on a five-point scale which represents 66.6 percent
dissatisfaction level. The result also showed that not all the necessary facilities as noted by
other researchers were provided for the student in the hostel.

Based on article by The Nation (2009) at Islamabad, students top most priority after
getting admissions is to find a place which is clean, spacious, lit with natural light and is
located in a broad street which has no litter and has immaculate sewage and water supply
system. But this is asking too much. Students face problems and the place that they manage
to find are costly to live. Finding a rented place is not the end of problem. Many housing
facilities are unclean, badly lit and lack basic facilities. Students who come from far off
places spend two to four years to study in cities and at present they are facing shortage of
accommodation as well as high charges.

Finally, it is targeted that this research could be one of the solution to the problems
that always been issues by students especially for them who live in colleges. This research
will be more focusing on what are the specific facility problems faced by college residents
and what are the facilities that are still inadequate or need to be present. Besides, this study
expectantly would give a positive achivements on the residents academic and also benefits
other research that relates to college’s hostel.
