Statements of SDG7
Ensure access to
affordable, reliable,
sustainable and
modern energy
for all.
Targets of SDG7
By 2030, ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy
services.
By 2030, increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy
mix .
By 2030, double the global rate of improvement in energy
efficiency .

By 2030, expand infrastructure and upgrade technology for supplying modern and
sustainable energy services for all in developing countries, in particular least developed
countries, small island developing States, and land-locked developing countries, in accordance
with their respective programmes of support .
By 2030, enhance international cooperation to facilitate access to clean energy
research and technology, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and advanced
and cleaner fossil-fuel technology, and promote investment in energy infrastructure and
clean energy technology.
Sources Of Affordable and Clean Energy

Nonrenewable energy sources such as gas, oil

and coal still account for the majority of
global energy production, the renewable
energy sector has been making great progress.
We still have further to go, however, to
realize a sustainable and affordable energy
sector that’s sufficient to meet our power
needs. Although there are a number of
different renewable energy technologies in the
works, a handful of mature ones dominate the
sector and are likely to be the major players
for years to come . These handfuls are :
Wind Energy : Harnessing the energy of the wind has evolved from the windmills of
yesteryear, and now this clean energy source is a serious contender in the electricity sector. One of
the benefits of wind energy — other than its ability to generate clean electricity economically —
is that after the initial capital investment, the financial inputs are minimal, and wind turbines are
essentially fuel-free for the rest of their lifespan, which can be decades.

Solar Energy :
Solar energy is simply the light and
heat that come from the sun. People
can harness the sun's energy in a few
different ways like Photovoltaic
Cells, Solar thermal Technology
etc. It’s one of the easiest way to
generate clean energy.
Hydropower:
Hydropower, which generates electricity from the flow of
water . Many countries of world produce huge electricity
through hydropower. 7 percent of all U.S. electricity
generation, according to the National Hydropower
Association. Countries blessed with good river flows can
be benefitted much by this.

Biomass Energy :
Biomass is organic, meaning it is made of material that comes from living organisms, such as plants
and animals. The most common biomass materials used for energy are plants, wood, and waste.
Biomass contains energy first derived from the sun. The energy from these organisms can be
transformed into usable energy through direct and indirect means.

Importance of Sustainability in Clean And
Affordable Energy
They need energy for the most basic things in their lives: heating and lighting their homes, cooking their food,
and getting to and from work. ... Moreover, when the poor do not have affordable access to energy, the
environment can suffer.

Renewable energy also helps conserve the nation's natural resources. Renewable energy provides reliable
power supplies and fuel diversification, which enhance energy security and lower risk of fuel spills while
reducing the need for imported fuels. Renewable energy also helps conserve the nation's natural resources.

Renewable energy will continue to rise in the upcoming decade, edging out fossil fuels and reducing
greenhouse gas emissions. .Their increasing deployment is crucial for efforts to tackle greenhouse gas
emissions, reduce air pollution, and expand energy access.
World’s Progress On Clean And Affordable
Energy Sustainability
In 2020 world is making good progress on increasing access to electricity and improving energy efficiency . Millions
of people throughout the world still lack such access, and progress on facilitating access to clean cooking fuels and
technologies is too slow. From UNDP’s report we get to know that

Global electrification rate rose, from 83 per cent in 2010 to 90 per cent by 2018.

Access to clean cooking fuels and technologies increased to 63 per cent in 2018, from 60 per cent in 2015
and 56 per cent in 2010. Still, 2.8 billion persons lacked such access and relied primarily on inefficient and
polluting cooking systems.

The renewable energy share of total final energy consumption gradually increased, from 16.3 per cent in 2010
to 17.0 per cent in 2015 and 17.3 per cent in 2017.

So in summary to attain the sustainability in clean and affordable energy much faster growth is required to meet long-
term climate goals.
Bangladesh’s Aspiration to Achieve SDG7 And
Progression
Bangladesh has a national target of increasing the share of renewable energy by 20 percent of total energy consumption
within 2030. BUT, according to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) tracker, only 3.15 percent of the total energy was
produced by renewable energy sources till 2018. According to Sustainable & Renewable Energy Development Authority
(SREDA), the share of renewable energy was 3.25 percent including off-grid in 2019.
Energy Source of Bangladesh
Bangladesh largely depends on natural gas. In the national grid, around 68.84 percent of energy production capacity
is from natural gas and 19.07 percent are from liquid fuel.
Only 1.03 percent comes from hydro and 0.165 percent comes from solar sources.

Renewable Energy Source

Bangladesh mostly started emphasising on solar power in recent years, and 61.5 percent renewable energy has been
measured from solar sources. Currently, solar power production capacity is 393MW including off-grid.
In 2019, about 26.61MW of renewable energy was installed on-grid grid and 18.261MW was installed off-grid. Both
of those energy sources were solar.
Hydropower has been considered as the second-highest renewable source of power in terms of generation capacity.
Sadly, since 1988 no hydropower plant was established in Bangladesh. The only hydro power-plant "Karnafuli Hydro
Power Station" has the capacity of 230MW.
Except, Feni Wind Power Plant, since 2006, Bangladesh has not been able to run any other on-grid wind power plant,
though there are four ongoing wind power projects.
Currently, very little electricity is produced from bio-gas and bio-mass, but those are off-grid.

Future Projects
Future projects suggest that total amount of renewable energy use will be increased, however the share of
renewable energy of total consumption may not be improved.

In Summary renewable energy source can produce in an arithmetic rate but non-renewable energy power sources
can produce in geometric rates . So renewable energy sources losing the race . In this position, considering the
current progress and future projects, setting 20 percent energy share from renewable sources of total consumption
seems highly ambitious.
Energy is for all.So we need to acquire
sustainability in energy. Clean Energy is
the only way to get sustainability and
affordable for all people in world. World
organizations should work together to
win this goal.
