Movement in Animals

The main difference between aestivation and hibernation is, aestivation is summer sleep

while hibernation is winter sleep in which an organism passes the winter period in deep
sleep condition. Aestivation: Aestivation is summer sleep and during aestivation, animals usually tend
to rest in a shady and cool place.

Hibernation and migration are adaptations for animals to survive winter months when food is not
available. Hibernation is when animals rest or remain asleep during the entire winter. Migration is the
movement of animals from one place to another.
GIST OF THE POEM:

The Poem is about the time of change in the cycle  of seasons.
Nature seems to have it's own secret and mysterious
way of telling the Geese that winter  has almost
arrived and that they must get ready to fly to the land where the sun shines.
In spite of still seeing the golden fields of summer, can feel the urge to begin
their winter migration. Something tells them that frost and snow are on the
way and it is time to fly. Even though the summer sun is on their wings,
‘there is winter in their cry.’
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A FLOCK OF BIRDS FLYING AWAY TOGETHER? WHERE DO
YOU THINK THEY ARE GOING? READ THE POEM TO FIND OUT WHY THE WILD
GEESE LEAVE THE BEAUTIFUL GOLDEN FIELDS BEHIND.

Something told the wild geese

It was time to go,
Though the fields lay golden
Something whispered, ‘snow’.
Explanation:

This is trying to demonstrate that nature is calling out to the

geese. Even though it is still golden outside, there is
something that is talking about snow, which makes us think
that snowy season is approaching.
2 Stanza
nd

Leaves were green and stirring,

Berries, luster-glossed.
But beneath warm feathers
Something cautioned, ‘frost’.
2 Stanza explanation
nd

What do you think the climate would be?

Yes, it is summer as the leaves are green and moving with the wind and the berries are sparkling and under
the feathers of the geese the heat is felt.
Then, how did the geese get to know that winter is approaching?
Probably, birds too have sixth sense that winter is approaching hence, something warned, frost.

All the sagging orchards

Steamed with amber spice
But each wild breast stiffened
At remembered ice.

of the fruits. The heavy rotting of the fruit and the colour

memory of the harsh winter when they remembered the word
ice.
