INTRODUCTION

“LINEAR ACCELERATOR” therapy using ionizing radiation, generally as part

of cancer treatment to control or kill malignant cells

“NUCLEAR MEDICINES” application of radioactive substances in the diagnosis

and treatment of disease

IN RELATION TO A CITY A HOSPITAL MUST FIT IN WELL WITH THE

FOLLOWING:

 local topography
 Good transport
 Supply facilities
 Climatic conditions
 Foot fall

BASIC REQUIREMNTS OF A LINAC ACCELERATOR

 Full provision for all cancer patients

 This block will mainly serve the purpose of OPD and researche’s,alongside there
will be facility of accomodation of 10 patients.
 Additional separate changing accommodation for boys and girls is desirable
 Appropriate toilet and car parking facilities(25-30 proposed).
 Car facility mainly for official’s and 1 ECS for 2 beds.
 Toilet facility for men: 1urinal for 5 men,1WC for 10 men.
 Toilet facility for women: 1WC for every 5 Women.
 Officials’ room
 Equipment rooms and store
Nuclear medicine involves the use of radio isotopes in diagnostic or therapeutic
mode. The process embraces:
• The preparation of the isotopes
• Their injection into the patient tracking them in the body
• Measuring the rate and degree of their uptake using gamma cameras.
