enforce rules and laws that keep people safe, including crossing guards,
bus drivers, firefighters, and police officers.

What is a Community?
■ A community is a group of people living in the same place or

having a particular characteristic in common.

■ Communities can be very small or very large.

■ Some may be small and made up of only a few houses and

buildings or larger, consisting of lots of houses and buildings.

■ People in communities help each other.

Community Helpers Keep Us Safe
■ Helpers such as police officers, fire fighters,
doctors, and nurses work heard every day to ensure
the safety of the community!

■ When people break rules that can hurt others, police


officers will help to make sure everyone is safe.

■ Doctors and nurses work to make sure everyone is


healthy and safe!
Importance in Community
■ In a community it is very important to realize that

what you do may affect other around you.

■ Following rules in a community reflects qualities

of good citizenship.

■ It is important to be honest, responsible, respectful,

and fair in a community.
