Lesson 1 : Community
Each picture shows a community. Are they all the same? Why
do you think so?
Community
● The Philippines is made up of many
communities. There are
communities that are similar and
there are communities that are
different. Your community may be
different from others but there are
some things that communities have
in common.
● A community is a group of people
living together in a particular place.
It is where families share common
purpose, goals, and responsibilities.
● Each community has its own
characteristics. The people in a
community do different activities.
Community

● Some people are busy doing

activities like cleaning their
yards, planting plants, and
others.
● There are still a lot more
activities that families do while
living in the community.

● Let’s take a look at Ellen’s

community.
“Hi! I am Ellen. I live in this community.
This is Barangay Pacita. It is a residential
Subdivision in a town near the city. Most
of my neighbors came to live here about
five years ago.”

The houses here look almost the same.

This community is one of the government
projects that help Filipino families to have
their own property. The houses are not
that big, but there is a backyard wherein
families can plant vegetables to create a
garden.
Importance of a Community

 People who live and work in a community share common values.

They are the ones who create the community they desire to have.

 There are leaders in the community who formulate ordinances.

These ordinances are approved by the people in the community.

 Here are some common laws that must be obeyed in a big or

small community:
Importance of a Community
1. Anti-littering Law – To keep the community clean, the people are cautioned to dispose
their garbage properly.

2. No Smoking – Smoking is prohibited in public places; specific places are designated as

smoking areas.

3. Curfew Hours – Children are not allowed to be in the streets between ten o’clock in the
evening up to five o’clock in the morning.
Importance of a Community
4. Loading and Unloading Areas – Public and private transportation vehicles are given
designated places to load and unload passengers.

5. Pedestrian Crossing – People are allowed to cross streets at designated places only.

6. Waste Management – Households should dispose their garbage carefully.

Biodegradable wastes should be separated from nonbiodegradable ones.
Obeying laws in one’s community will benefit
everyone. So, if every Filipino in all
communities will do right things, then its effect
would benefit the entire country.

a country. The Philippines is the country of the
Filipinos. This is our country.
