• Prepare yourself (rehearse, collect relevant info. about your project)
• Audience analysis (expectations, background, etc.)
• Convert descriptive headlines to headlines that sell
• Show benefits, not features
• Tell-Tell-Tell
• Elevator speech
• Use personal anecdotes

DON’Ts
• Do not read from your slides
• Too much info. (technical, financial, product details)
• Too many colors and animations
• Not getting to your key idea/s quickly
• Do not speak in a monotonous voice / too low / too fast
• Do not use too much fillers (you know, well, ummm, alright, …)

Elevator Speech - Example
Your manager asks, “How’s are the new engineers who have
joined the Operations department performing?”

• Summary/ Introduction : They are fine with most of the jobs.


• Problem and potential benefit can be combined: We have had an
interaction with seven of them, will finish talking to all by Friday
and will submit the feedback and action plan to you by Saturday
evening.
