Frequently Asked Questions

My text is a Strayer special edition. Is
it okay to use?
 Yes. It is a text that was commissioned by Strayer
for use with this class. Be sure you have the text:
Santrock, J. (2006). The individual and society.
Boston, MA: McGraw-Hill.
I will be on the road for business (family vacation,
running in a marathon, staying ahead of the law,
etc) during this course. Will I be able to make up
the work?
 You bet. But you need to let me know ahead of time. I will not
hunt you down to do it, but I will work with you. If you are ill
or have an emergency, just let me know. The best way is to
email me. Or tell Academics, your advisor, or have someone
contact me asap. We’re all adults and we have unexpected
events. Just act responsibly and we’ll work it out.
What if I just forget to do something?

 As the syllabus states, I don’t take late work – but

I’m not totally mean. Everyone gets a break, so use
yours wisely, and don’t make it a habit. I’m a
suspicious woman!
I never seem to get group emails. Why not?
 The most likely reason is that you don’t have a valid email
address on file with Strayer. Look under My Profile when
you first log in to Strayer. If you see this address:
email@strayer.edu listed next to your name, you don’t have
a valid email account. You can send me emails from the
website, but you will not receive any. Update your address
and you’ll receive emails.
Can you send me a list of all my classmates’

email addresses?
 It is Strayer’s policy not to provide personal
information. If you and another student want to
exchange information, you may do so in the
discussions.
Why can’t I work ahead?
 This is also Strayer policy. The weeks remain closed
until 12:01 AM on Monday. In the past, weeks were
available anytime, but apparently, there have been
problems with the attendance info automatically
collected by the computer. For technical reasons, we
must restrict you to the weeks as scheduled. Sorry.
I Need an Incomplete at the End of the Course.
 The university policy for issuing a student an Incomplete Grade at
the end of the quarter:
 Only if the student has completed at least 80% of the course work
AND
 Only if the student is passing the work completed with at least a C
average.
 Once issued, an Incomplete is generally good for 2 weeks, but
under certain circumstances may be for 1 full quarter.
 You must complete an Incomplete Contract which I must submit at
the end of the current quarter.
