Emergence of Workers
• System of Production
1. Manorial System
• It is based on large arable land and workers were
treated as Serf.
• They were paid a part of the agro-products and rests
were taken by the landlord.
• Workers were forbidden to leave the place.
2. Guild System
 It is an association of craftsmen or merchants to
control their own affairs.
There are merchant guilds and craft guilds.
Craftsmen were workers and masters. They produce
and have all the sale proceeds.
2. Domestic System / putting –out System of
Production
Workers were from the extended family members or
relatives or neighbours or from the same area of living.
There was no boss-subordinate relationships. Very informal
relations
 Workers were paid from the sale proceeds on weekly basis.
Workers own their tools.
4. Factory System of Production
Factory system was the first mass production system having
large employment of workers.
• Tools were separated from the workers and they are paid
wages for their labour.
• First wage-workers have emerged.
• The production process was concentrated, mechanical power
was used and wealth was confined in the hands of capitalists.
Characteristics of the Working Class
The working class (or labouring class) comprises those
engaged in waged or salaried   labour, especially in
manual labour  occupations and industrial work.
Working-class occupations include blue-collar jobs,
some white –collar jobs, and most pink-collar  jobs.
 Members of the working class rely for their income
exclusively upon their earnings from wage labour.  
Characteristics of the Working Class
 The working class  comprises of people who are either
middle class or lower class, they need to work in order
to have good income and to support their families.
 Workers are proletariat. They have only one asset that
is labour.
 Working class is subject to exploitation of capitalists.
 It contains skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers
and the source of production.
Commitment of workers in Industry
• Definition commitment
• Commitment is the individual’s feelings of
identification with and attachment to the
organization. – R.W. Griffin
• Commitment means that you accept the situation as
something desirable, try to live up to it, accept the
consequences, and endeavour to improve it and
make a success of it.- Pascaul Gisber.
Commitment to industry
• Commitment to industry means a commitment to involve
with both performance and acceptance of behavior
appropriate to an industrial way of life. - Moore and Fieldman.
• Degree of Commitment
• Reluctance
• Resignation
• Commitment
• Devotion
• Consecration
Characteristics of Committed Workes
• Stay in industrial job.
• Severed relationship with village /land.
• Understand and accept requirements of working in
industry.
• Never think industrial job as temporary.
• Get personal satisfaction in industrial environment.
Stages of commitment or worker to industry
• Uncommitted worker
• Semi-committed worker
• Generally committed worker
• Specially committed worker
Commitment Bangladeshi workers to

• Fairly committed .
• Old workers are more committed.
• Less educated workers are more committed.
