T: Hello third grade readers. Are you guys ready for storytime?

S; Yes, Yes,

T: O.k. today we are going to

read a story about a girl who just wants to be original. Does anyone know what

the word original means?

Students raise their hand

T calls on Student 1: Student 1 what does it mean

T: That’s right Student 1, to be original means that no one or nothing else is like the
original. I am going to put you guys on mute. Can you type in the chat for me a time
when you felt you were original?

TW give students 2 minutes to


type their answers

T: Ok Guys, there is something really Special about the story we
are reading today.. I need you to help me read it. I’m going to read
it through the first time, and then the second time, I am going to
need your help. So make sure you have your listening ears on.

S: Agree and listen


T: reads story one time through. Then asks “ Guys what did you
think of that story?” Raise your bluehand emoji if you want to share
your thoughts.

Students: Share their thoughts on the book.


T: Teacher reads a few of the
answers. “ Those are all awesome examples guys. Now who is ready to read the
book “ Stephanie’s Ponytail”, give me a thumbs up on your screen if you are
ready
T: “Ok Kiddos. Remember when I said we were going to read the story again but I would
need your help? Give me the thumbs up emoji if you remember. Teacher acknowledges
thumbs up emojis.”

Teacher writes the word “ Ugly”


on the whiteboard and shares the screen. Who knows what this word is? Raise
your bluehand to answer. Teacher calls on Student 2

Student 2; The word is “ ugly”

T: Correct! Remember in the


story where the other students told Stephanie.. “ ugly, ugly very ugly!”
Teacher calls on student: “They said it in a mean way
like ‘ ugly ugly’ student says making a face to go along
with the words.
Teacher laughs: “ Correct they
said it in a mean way.” So whenever the kids say “ugly,
ugly” you guys say it
in a MEAN Way, Lets practice
S: practice saying the phrase in a mean way.
T: Ok guys one more word before we ready to read the story again. Teacher
writes the word “ VERY” on the white board and shares screen

Teacher calls on student: “They said it in a mean way like ‘ ugly ugly’ student
says making a face to go along with the words.
Teacher laughs: “ Correct they
said it in a mean way.” So whenever the kids say “ugly, ugly” you guys say it
in a MEAN Way, Lets practice

T: Ok guys one more word before
we ready to read the story again. Teacher writes the word “ VERY” on the white
board and shares screen
T: Who knows what this word says? Raise your blue hand if you want to answer.
Teacher calls on a student.

S: It says “ Very:

T: Correct, that’s one of our


site words! Very. So all together the phrase says; “ Ugly, ugly, Very ugly”

Teacher repeats the phrase using


prosody,

T: Ok sweetpeas I am going to
unmute all of you and we are going to practice saying the phrase. But
remember,.....

You have to say it they way student 2 told us, in a “ MEAN way” Teacher makes a
mean face and says using prosody, “ Ugly, Ugly. VERY UGLY!”
Students giggle and talk about with excitement

T: Ok class focus. Lets practice


saying it together. 3 times

Teacher and students practice the


phrase 3 times. Each time the teacher focuses on using prosody in the choral
reading part, “ UGLY, UGLY, VERY UGLY”

Teacher and students read the story together.

Each time the phrase “ UGLY, UGLY, VERY UGLY!” is spoken, the students repeat it
after the teacher.
T: Ok guys time for you to try this one your own I’m going to put you all in your own breakout rooms so you can
read the story to yourself. Do you understand?

S: agree with teacher

T: Ok I will be popping in to the rooms to check your progress. Give me the thumbs up emoji on your screen
when you are ready to go into your breakout room

T: Ok Guys that was awesome reading. Now who is ready for a Kahoot! Game?

S: All talk in excitement


T: Mutes class. Ok guys I am going to put the link in the chat. Everyone
click on it and start the game.
T: I want you to work on the Kahoot! Assignment on your own. I will put you
in your own breakout rooms and check on you. This assignment is also
your exit ticket when you CANNOT LOG OFF until you have completed the
game.”
