WHAT IS A FAMILY?

WHO’S IN A FAMILY?
SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON 1
WHO ARE SOME OF THE MEMBERS OF YOUR
FAMILY?
We will start the lesson filling out a pre assessment sheet attached separately with this
lesson. This is a pre-assessment and won’t be graded, it just gives me an idea of what you
know. Take 5-10 min to complete a sheet answering the question “What are four things you
do with, or learn from, your family that are important or special?” It can lbe one word with
a picture, or a full sentence. Be creative.
• Before starting the video think about who are some of your family members? Maybe talk
to one of your family members about your family. When you are listening to the book
and looking at the pictures, think about: What do you notice about the members or
people in these families? Are the family members the same? Are the family members
different?

grandparents and 2 children. Another family might only have a mom and a child and so
on
• Think about your family and who it consists of.
• Today you will create your own family tree. I have attached a tree and the leaves that you
cut out.
• On the next slide is quick video of how to arrange/make your own family tree.
• Please take a picture of your work and submit it by 3 PM. I hope you will have fun
