GLOBE
•A globe is a model of
Earth which gives us a
fairly accurate idea about
it.
Features of a globe
• It gives a three dimensional effect.
• It helps us to locate different countries and continents.
• It gives us an idea about what the whole earth looks like.
• It does not shows much details than maps.
• It is not easy to carry.
• A specific area cannot be enlarged on the globe.
MAP
•A map is a two
dimensional
representation of the
Earth on a flat surface.
Features of a map
• Detailed information can be obtained through maps.

• Even the smallest area can be enlarged on a map.

• The Earth’s spherical shape cannot be accurately shown on a flat


surface.
IMAGINARY LINES
LATITUDES
• Latitudes are imaginary lines
that run from east to west.

• These lines are parallel to


each other.

• They are also called Parallels


of Latitude.
EQUATOR
• An imaginary line drawn
halfway between the
North Pole and the South
Pole is called Equator.
IMPORTANT LATITUDES
LONGITUDES
• Longitudes are imaginary
lines that run from the North
Pole to the South Pole.

• These lines are not parallel to


each other.

• These lines are also called the


Meridians of longitude.

GRID
• The parallels of latitude
and lines of longitude
form a network on the
globe which is known a
grid.
