Tourism has various forms on the basis of purpose of visit
and alternative forms. These are further divided into
many types according to their nature
Types of tourism
Some most important types of tourism
can be defined, for example, as following:
Adventure Tourism, Atomic Tourism, Bicycle Tours,
Beach Tourism, Cultural Tourism, Ecotourism,
Geotourism, Industrial Tourism, Medical Tourism,
Religious Tourism, Rural Tourism, Space Tourism, Sports
Tourism, War Tourism, Wildlife Tourism
Recreational / Leisure Tourism
Recreational or leisure tourism takes a person away from
the humdrum of everyday life. In this case, people spend
their leisure time at the hills, sea beaches etc.
It is when people are not working, studying or
sleeping they are free to make a choice
about what they do with their spare or
‘leisure’ time.
Cultural Tourism

It is concerned with a country or region's culture,
specifically the lifestyle of the people in those
geographical areas, the history of those people, their
art, architecture, religion(s), and other elements that
helped shape their way of life.

Religious / faith Tourism
It is a type of tourism, where people travel individually
or in groups for pilgrimage, missionary, or leisure
(fellowship) purposes.
Sports/Adventure Tourism
Trips have taken by people with a view to playing golf,
skiing and hiking, fall within this category
It refers to travel which involves either observing or
participating in a sporting event staying apart from their
usual environment. Sport tourism is a fast-growing sector
of the global travel industry
Health / Medical Tourism

Under this category, people travel for medical, treatment
or visit places where there are curative possibilities, for
example, hot springs, spa yoga, etc.

It is the travel of people to another country for the


purpose of obtaining medical treatment in that country
Some people travel to obtain medical surgeries or other
treatments. Some people go abroad for dental tourism
or fertility tourism
Convention Tourism

It is becoming an increasingly important component of
travel. People travel within a country or overseas to
attend conventions relating to their business, profession
or interest.
Incentive Tourism

Holiday trips are offered as incentives by major


companies to dealers and salesmen who achieve high
targets in sales. This is a new and expanding
phenomenon in tourism

It is the exploration of food as the purpose of tourism

 Wild life Tourism


It is watching wild animals in their natural habitat

 Agri Tourism
It is activity that brings visitors to a farm or ranch

MICE
Meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) is a
type of tourism in which large groups, usually planned well in
advance, are brought together for a particular purpose
