On August 4, 2009, nine year-old Jennifer Salazar spent the day at

a birthday party of her neighbor in Maguilling, Piat, Cagayan. Later in

the afternoon at between 3:00 to 4:00 o’clock, her relatives and
visitors noticed she was missing. At about 5:00 PM, the body of the
said child was found at an isolated spot behind a water tower in the
said barangay. Said people saw that the child was sexually assaulted
and was killed through a tire iron.
A 47 year-old man called Melvin Castro, one of the visitors, was
also at the party and was believed to have left the party during the
same time when the child was missing. The suspect is until now
missing and out of reach.
