Listening, Reading and Viewing are required for the making of meaning from
ideas or information.

Speaking Writing and Representing are productive skills that enable the
creation of meaning.

Grammar and Vocabulary, which constitute about language, are the building
blocks that are required for the application of the receptive and productive
skills for effective communication.
OBJECTIVES
1. define listening and viewing;
2. Demonstrate positive listening and viewing
attitudes and behavior by showing attentiveness and
understanding;
3. Use appropriate skills and strategies to process
meaning from texts;
4. listen to and view a variety of literary selections
and informational/ functional text.
HEARING- is the act of perceiving sound and receiving
sound waves or vibrations through your ear.

LISTENING- is the act of hearing a sound and


understanding what you hear.

Listening is a skill that let’s the sound you HEAR go


through your brain to process the meaning of it.
THE FOUR EARS OF
LISTENING
Factual content- Actual, specific, “mere” information.
Self-revelation- information about yourself that you wish
to share with the other person.
Relationship- terms that express how you feel about the
other person and about your relationship with that persons.
Appeal- a request that you are making of the other person.
