frustrating and the results are
overwhelming.
Analyzing your topic, and then using
search techniques effectively, will help
you obtain the information you need for
school or personal use
 TIPS FOR SEARCHING THE NET

1. Be specific.
List keywords that define your topic –
these will become your search terms.
Be as specific as possible. Example
search for “Covid-19” rather than
“Virus”.

Example: I want to research

about Covid-19
What about this topic are you
interested in? Do you want to know
signs/symptoms, the total number
of cases, or the origin of it?
●2. Formulate a question or
sentence about your topic
●Ex: What is Covid-19?
●The origin of Covid-19
● 3. Use quotation marks for exact
phrases:
● Example: “What is covid-19” will
result in web pages where that
phrase appears. There will be
fewer sites.
● 4. Legit Check
● Who is the author? Is he/she a qualified
authority on the subject?
● You should be able to contact them
through an ‘About us' or ‘Contact’ section.
● Does the page have overall integrity and
reliability as a source?
● 5. ALWAYS cite sources and
references
● -It is important to cite the
references or to give credits to
the author whenever you are
searching the net. Never do
plagiarism.
