INTERNET

Excellent job! You have just written some key

words related to internet. By successfully doing so, I
believe you are 3now ready to dive into a more serious
note. Let’s do this!
There are hundreds of millions of active websites on the internet which make
finding a topic very difficult. However, internet has search engines which provide
means of accessing information faster and easier.

Search engines are online tools used to locate data based on the user’s
input. According to David Dwyer (2016), the top five best search engines in the world
are Google, Bing, Yahoo, Baidu and Aol.

1. Google is a popular search engine which began as a search project in

1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. It is a powerful engine used by
people to access information on various topics.
2. Bing is a search engine owned and operated by Microsoft. It provides a
variety of search engines, including web, video, image and map search
products.
3. Yahoo is an internet portal that incorporates a search engine and a
directory of World Wide Web sites organized in a hierarchy of topic
categories.
4. Baidu is the dominant Chinese internet search engine company, and it is
the equivalent to Google in the United Sates. It offers similar products and
services, but the focus is China where it controls most of the search
market.
5. America Online (Aol) is a digital media company that has developed and
maintains multiple online businesses including websites, a search engine,
Internet connectivity, email service and more.
America Online was one of the most prominent Internet service providers
in the 1990s and early 2000s due to the proliferation of their free-trial discs
and the company's tendency to extend their free trials for lengthy amounts
of time.

These search engines are essentials in your studies. They provide means or
ways of getting information of any topic related to your lesson. When you are given
research works, you would always run to these tools by just simply typing the
keywords.
GFC Global shared some useful tips to consider in getting information online
using the search engines.
1. Navigate a search engine in your web browser, type the keywords and
click enter.
2. If you are having a hard time looking for your topic, consider search
suggestions.
3. If you are still having trouble finding exactly what you need, refine your
search’.

4
4. For content-specific researches just like news article, picture, or video click
the link at the top of the page that allows you to perform unique searches.

You are now familiar with the different search engines. To

facilitate better understanding of the lesson let us consider the
following example.
