Composition:

Sodium Fluoride (NaF)

Triclosan (C12H7Cl3O2), these
two ingredients are only in 0.2-
0.3%

TOOTHPASTE Most abundant: Abrasives like

Silicon Dioxide (SiO2) (silica
gels).
Water (H2O) is 20-40%
Others: Sorbitol (C6H14O6) for
flavor and humectant for
smoothness and wetness
• The first active ingredient in
Main toothpaste that plays a large role
Chemicals/ in keeping your teeth clean is
Sodium Fluoride. Sodium Fluoride
Compounds/ or NaF, is a white odorless solid
Components that accounts for only 0.24% (in
all colgate toothpastes).
• NaF is an ionic compound that
crystallizes in a cubic structure and
Main has octahedral molecular structure
Chemicals/ meaning there are 6 atoms arranged
symmetrically around a center atom
Compounds/ like the vertices of a octahedron.
The mineral form of sodium fluoride
Components is villiaumite however it is not
obtained from villiaumite.
• The second active ingredient in
toothpaste is Triclosan or
C12H7Cl3O2. Other than toothpaste
Main it is also used in many other cleaners as
Chemicals/ well as shampoo, bedding, and garbage
bags. It is a solid white powder that is
Compounds/ classified as a chlorinated aromatic
ether. There is much controversy over
Components the safety concerns of triclosan;
however, production still continues
through synthesis.

LOTION Petroleum (CnH2n+2)
Glycerin (C3H8O3)
Citric Acid (C6H8O7)
Butylene Glycol

• Petroleum (CnH2n+2)- another name for
it is Mineral Oil. It is dug up from the
Main ground and refined. What it does is trap
the moisture to your skin, which can clog
Chemicals/ your pores. It’s naturally occurring, but
unfortunately it has become harder to
Compounds/ find since the demand for it has
Components increased. It is formed when plants or
organisms are trapped in layers of
sediment for millions of years!
• Water (H2O)- covers about 70 percent
of the earth. Found all over rivers,
Main waterfalls, oceans, and etc. Some
scientist believe that it came from a
Chemicals/ different planet.Water consists of two
hydrogens and one oxygen. Water is the
Compounds/ main ingredient in lotion.What it’s meant
to do is to hydrate and moisturize the

percent of your brain, 82 percent of your
blood, and 90 of your lungs.

PERFUME
COMPOSITIO
N
All perfumes are composed of both a base and a
fragrance compound. The base is commonly
alcohol or water. Ethyl alcohol is generally used
because it evaporates quickly on the skin. Other
bases include: Coumarin, Benzyl Benzotate,
Phthalates, or even beeswax. The fragrance can
be synthetic or it can be literally taken from a
plant, animal, etc. Without the perfect
combination of the fragrance and base combined,
the smell could come across too strong or too
light.
MAIN
CHEMICALS/
COMPONENTS/
COMPOUNDS
The main components of perfume are a perfume oil, an alcohol, and water.

Perfume Oil
Perfume oil can be broken down into two different types. A synthetic oil, or
a fragrance taken from a specific source through methods such as
headspace. Headspace directly vacuums the smell from the object nd gets
a print out of its chemical equation to recreate the smell. Oils can be
extracted from flowers, plants, animals, ect. The oils have three parts: The
top note, the heart note, and the base note. The top note is what you smell
immediately. The heart note is what you smell 3-4 hours after applying and
it evaporates slowly. The base note sticks easily to the skin and can stay for
up to eight hours! The chemical equations for perfume oil completely
depend on what the oil was taken from
Water and Alcohol
There are also many different types of alcohol that can be
used. Ethyl Alcohol is most commonly used (C2H6O)
because it helps the fragrance spread out. Distilled water,
H2O, is also used to spread out the smell of the fragrance.
Dilution is much needed in a perfume for it to be
appealing. There are different strengths of perfume based
on how much dilution is added. Parfum, the most
concentrated perfume you can buy, is 15-25 percent
perfume oil. Cologne, the least concentrated perfume, is
about 10 percent perfume oil.

SHAMPOO
COMPOSITIO
N
Sodium chloride( NaCl): Used to adjust the viscosity
Sodium Lauryl sulfate
(CH3(CH2)11(OCH2CH2)nOSO3Na): Surfactant
Cocamidopropyl betaine: C19H38N2O3
Ammonium Chloride(H4ClN)
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate(C12H29NO4S)
Glycol(C2H6O2
All of these components help the foaming, rinsing, eye
irritation, feeling of shampoo itself, fragrance and smell,
acidity, and the repairing of damaged hair.
MAIN
CHEMICALS/
COMPONENTS/
COMPOUNDS
Shampoo is made by combining a surfactant with a
cosurfactant. These are the two main components in
Shampoo. A surfactant is a substance that reduces the
surface tension of a liquid in which it is dissolved. In
shampoo, a surfactant works as a detergent to clean the
hair, although it can also act as a wetting agent, foaming
agent, and an emulsifier. The other component in shampoo
is a cosurfactant. Cosurfactant is a substance that is used
to increasing the oil solubilizing capacity.
