WHAT IS HEPATITIS B?
• Serious liver infection that causes inflammation (swelling and
reddening) that can lead to liver damage
• also called HBV and Hep B
• cause cirrhosis (hardening or scarring), liver cancer and even death
Hepatitis B in Malaysia
• Hepatitis B is a serious public health problem in Malaysia
• it is estimated that one in every 20 cases of chronic liver disease is
caused by the hepatitis B virus.
Statistic Of Hepatitis B in Malaysia
Prevention of Hepatitis B in Malaysia
• The hepatitis B vaccination program for infants was introduced in
1989 by Malaysia Government.
• provided free of charge to all Malaysian children
• 3 doses of vaccine were given:
1. First dose at early birth of baby
2. Second dose on 1 month of baby age
3. Third dose on 6 month of baby age
Conclusion
• Health education on the dangers of Hepatitis B needs to be further
expanded in the community and the importance of knowing how to
prevent the spread of infection in the community
