THE SEVEN SACRAMENTS:

CHRIST ’S SAVING GRACE

AND ACTION
LESSON 11
Sacred Scripture:
“You are the salt of the earth …. You are the light of the
world … let your light shine before men in such a way that
they may see your good works, glorify your Father who is in
heaven.
Mt. 5: 13 – 16

“Love one another as I have loved you. This is how all will
know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one
another.” John 13: 34 - 35
Words to Remember
1. Salt of the earth = to taste
2. Light of the world = opposite of darkness
3. Light must shine = for good works may be seen
4. Effect: Father in heaven is glorified.

Salt to taste = your presence makes a difference in the lives of

others.
Light in darkness = your presence gives light not sadness or
darkness in the lives of others.
Therefore: for our LIFE to have direction and meaning we
must make a difference and brightens the life of others.
How do we show the importance of what we think and feel?
Answer:
We use gestures, objects or actions as SYMBOLS to express
our thought, words and feelings.
Example:
How do we show(express) to a girl/boy you like him/her?
How do you show(express) your love for your parents?
How do you demonstrate your feelings of anger, boredom,
sadness and love for another person?
Answer: using gestures, objects or actions.

Remember: Actions, gestures or objects speak louder than

words.
“Ang hindi masabi ng salita dinadaan sa gawa.”
In the same manner: Today SYMBOLS are used by God and the
Church to show us God’s love.
SYMBOLS – point to a deeper reality that evokes response from
each of us.
POINT FOR REFLECTION: (Use separate paper)
1. Think: what gestures do you use to deliver your message at
home?
2. What object, gesture or action do you do that shows you
remember Jesus Christ or God everyday? Daily routine.
3. At the moment, what is the gesture you just have done to
show God’s presence in your life?
The Challenge:
* How can you be a salt of the earth and a light of the world?

SALT AND LIGHT = are SIGNS

meaning a follower of Christ must be a
person who holds the standard of HONESTY
in speech, conduct and thoughts.
You STOP being Salt and Light when …..
. You begin to tell a lie
. You cheat, steal and say bad words.
A SALT and LIGHT of the world have ….
. Definite, positive, liberating influence on others.
. Your PRESENCE brings JOY to others.
. You are good to be with, happy to be with you.
. You are noticed by others because of the good vibes you bring
in other words: YOU ARE A GOOD NEWS.

Demands of following CHRIST.

1. Your presence must defeat corruption and makes it easier for
others to be good.
2. You bring serenity or peace wherever you are around.
3. In a depressed world, you remain full of the joy of life, you
carry LOVE thus joy reflects your physical presence = a
smiling face, calm words and smooth action.
Points for Reflection
1. In your ordinary day at home during this quarantine, how do
you treat the family members in the way you do your
household tasks, online learning and playtime with your
brothers and sisters?
2. Do you show your parents how grateful you are for sending
you to school in spite economical crisis due to the pandemic?
How? Give at least 2 ways you show you are grateful.
3. Is God, Christ and the Holy Spirit still part of your priorities
in life? In what way do you show your LOVE for God?
“Sacraments are saving symbolic acts or visible signs arising
from the ministry of Christ and continued in, by and for the
Church, which when received in faith, fashion us into the
likeness to Christ in His Paschal Mystery, through the power of
the Holy Spirit.”
CFC 1531
Sacraments make it possible real happening that make present
the spiritual reality they express.
Spiritual realities like LOVE and FREEDOM touch us through
the material conditions of our lives.
We can not see LOVE but we can feel, communicate through

symbols.
Sacraments communicate through;
1. TOUCH – anointing, laying of hands, washing, embracing
2. GESTURES – standing, kneeling, bowing, sitting
3. WORDS – proclaimed, listened to, spoken, and responded to

The Seven Sacraments are classified into three groups

4. Sacrament of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and
Eucharist
5. Sacrament of Healing – Reconciliation and Anointing of
the sick
6. Sacrament of Service and Commitment – Holy Orders and
Matrimony
Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders imprint a character on
the soul – an indelible spiritual sign – so that these three
Sacraments cannot be repeated.

Penance gives reconciliation

Anointing prepares the body for eternal life (resurrection).

Eucharist and Matrimony establish loving interpersonal

communion, beginning of heavenly fulfillment.

Purpose of the Sacrament:

To restore and perfect our fallen human nature.
The institution of the Sacraments through Christ, with Christ
and in Christ brought the Church into being.

Christ continues to act, not only divinely but also humanly, in

the Sacraments through the ministers administering them.

We really meet the Incarnate-Word (also meeting the Father and

the Holy Spirit) in a real, human loving communion with God.
Significance of the 7 Sacraments:
1. Sacraments are loving cooperative actions in which God
the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ the Lord in glory, the Church
by her ordained minister, and the recipient
(believers/faithful) join to accomplish the salvation of
human persons.
2. Sacraments are supreme part of the Church’s activity.
The sacraments confers upon the us, believers Christ’s
redemptive love.
3. Sacraments are effective wherever they are properly and
lovingly carried out and worthily received. The grace
received in the Sacraments certainly is a gift of God.
Worship: The Sacraments are faith-rituals that must be
celebrated in FAITH and LOVE in order to be
effective.
Doctrine: God works through the sacramental principle –
material realities.
Morals: When celebrated in FAITH and with proper
LOVING
disposition, the Sacraments fashion(mold) us in
likeness to Christ in His Pascal Mystery through the
power of the Holy Spirit (cf. CFC 1531).
