EPISTEMOLOGY LOGIC
1. Epistemology: the Study of Knowledge

 as a discipline includes the subjects of the nature of


knowledge and the extent of knowledge, given its possibility.

Central concerns:
a.) Whether or not things be known with absolute certainty;

b.) whether or not some things are unknowable.

Common issue:
Skepticism- the doctrine that genuine knowledge is impossible.
2. Metaphysics (Ontology): the Study of Reality

the philosophical study whose object is to


determine the real nature of things—to
determine the meaning, structure, and principles
of whatever is insofar as it is.
3. Axiology: The Study of Value

the inquiry into the nature, criteria, and metaphysical status of value

Subdivisions:
a.) Ethics/Moral Philosophy

b.) Aesthetics- the inquiry into feelings, judgments, or standards


concerning the nature of beauty and arts;
 the analysis of the values of sensory experience and the
associated feelings or attitudes in art and nature.
4. Logic
the study of the methods and principles used
to distinguish correct from incorrect
reasoning.
