ACTIONS.
Definition and the function
Correlative Conjunction is a coordinating conjunction that pair up with other words to connect
elements in a sentence.
The functions of correlative conjunctions are to connect :
1. Nouns (example) Both trees and flowers grow beautifully in my garden.
2. Adjectives (example) Uci is both pretty and kind
3. Prepositional (example) We will have vacation either in next Saturday or on Sunday.
4. lndependent clauses (example) Not only do students enjoy the concert, but they also enjoy
the game

Either............or..............

Relates two different things or action positively.

lt is used in a sentence in the affirmative sense when referring to a choice between two
possibilities.

Examples : Either Syifa and Syafia laugh when she heard the story.
We can either go to cafe or have a picnic.
Combine the following sentences wiith “ either...........or “

1. You must phone Mr. lvan. l must phone Mr. lvan.


2. Christiano plays football. Christiano plays basketball.
3. Mrs. Kartini should be patient. Mrs. Kartini should be humorous.
4. My sister will prepare the dinner tonight. l will prepare the dinner tonight.
5. Go home ! Be quiet !
Both.......and............
Both...........and...........refers to two subjects the plural form of the verb is always used.

Examples : Both lka and Pipit attended the meeting.


Dea enjoyed both the dinner and the music.
Rasya is both handsome and friendly.
Kids enjoy both wet and dry sport.
Combine the following sentences with both..........and...............

1. l work at the shipping company. Putra works at the shipping company.


2. Mother went shopping. Mrs. Ju went shopping.
3. Hadi is handsome. Susanto is handsome.
4. Hadyan watches the movie. Hadyan watches the concert.
5. l like the song. l like the singer.
Neither ..............nor..............
lt is used a sentence in the negative sense when you want to say that two or more things are not
true.

Examples :
Neither you nor l speak French.
Mahiza can neither write nor read.
Combine the following sentences with “ neither..........nor “

1. Fahmi didn’t go to the party last night. Egi didn’t go to the party last night.
2. Nana doesn’t like apples. Nana doesn’t like banana.
3. We cannot come to school because of the hard rain. The teacher cannot come to school
because of the hard rain.
4. Asti is not going to the supermarket. Hafisah is not going to the supermarket.
5. Thee is no bus available. There is no taxi avaikable/c
Not Only.....but also................
Not only.............but also.................

lt is used to present two related pieces of information. Both pieces of information are being
presented by the writer as surprising or unecxpected,with the scond one being even more
surprising than the first.
Examples : Not only the movie, but also the play was good.
The coach wants us not only to win the game, but also receive the appreciation.
Combine the following sentences with “ not only........but also.....”

1. You must clean the living room. You must sweep the yard.
2. The play was interesting. The play was touching.
3. The visitors enjoy the sightseeing. Tje visitors enjoy shopping.
4. They are watching movie together. They are playing in the park.
5. The performance will be shown at the school. The performance will be shown at the stadium.
