• Experimenting is central to the arts and frequently used in
making connection between the concreate and the abstract.

• experimenting enhance students motivation, understanding


and active involvement and can be initiated by the teacher
or the students.

• encourage students to use cooperative skills effectively in


interpreting and comunicating findings.
Why we need to experiment?
• Kids given the freedom to engage in new
explorations and explanations.
• Experiments promote discovery and learning.
• Experiment promotes the development of thinking.
• Experiment can be used to introduce new ideas or
to clarify puzzling aspects of topics with which
students typically struggling.
Experimenting with materials

 Pencil - using different pencils can help your work in


specific elements such as tone and detailed texture.
 Charcoal- is a good mdium for creating marks quickly and
work well as an expressive medium. charcoal can be messy
but is worth perserving with.
 Pastels- pastels come in two varieties: oil pastel and chalk
pastels.
 Watercolors and ink- combining waterclor washes with ink
drawing can create both atmosphere and detail.

 Mixed media - using different media gives you more ways to express
yourself. creating a collaged background for drawing is a very simple
mixed media experiment.

 3D techniques- a number of techniques are used to create 3D works


such as sculptures or installations.

 2D design- your experiments with materials and techniques could


relate to the final product, structure or space you are designing.

 Acrylic- think acrylic paint can be used to create textual effects.
