• The Philippine Statistics Authority reported that net employment in
the country’s agriculture, hunting, and forestry sector, or AHF, has
bee declining since 2010 as workers migrate to the industry and
services sectors.
• Based on latest Agricultural Indicators System of the Philippine
Statistics Authority (PSA), the total number of persons
employed in agriculture declined to 9.7 million in 2019, down
three percent from 10 million in 2018. This is already a 14
percent drop from the five-year reference period when 11.3
million people work

• Agricultural substituted for jobs that do not
necessarily pay high wages but offer a relatively stable
income stream, non-wage benefits and better working

Decline in agricultural employment was observed in all 17
regions except for Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and
the Bangsamoro region.
REASONS FOR THE DECLINE OF
