AGRIBUSINESS
VISION OF THE INDUSTRY

The vision is to transform and upgrade the agriculture


sector from traditional farming to agribusiness or
industrial clusters to take advantage of opportunities
in rubber, coconut, mangoes, bananas, coffee, palm
oil, cacao, and other emerging high value crops.
GOALS
Short-run (2014-2017) Goals:
• Improve productivity of high value crops where regional comparative
advantage lies
• Strengthen our capacity in emerging high value crops

Medium-run (2018-2021) Goals:


• Strengthen agro-processing and the linkages between production
(agriculture) and processing (manufacturing)
• Strengthen supply chains and commodity clusters

Long-run (2022-2025) Goals:


• Deepen participation in global value chains
• Strengthen coordination mechanism among stakeholders.
• Address supply chain gaps and other coordination issues.
• Provide support to small farmers especially access to technologies,
technical knowledge and production issues as well as access to finance.
• Promote green and climate resilient products.
• Investment in rural infrastructure.
• Investment in innovation and R&D.
• Strengthen regulatory and certification system.
• Property rights regime.

PERFORMANCE OF THE PHILIPPINE AGRICULTURE
(APRIL – JUNE 2020_

• Agriculture managed to grow by 0.5 percent in the second


quarter of 2020. Production in crops and fisheries recorded
increases while livestock and poultry posted declines.
• Crops registered a 5.0 percent growth in production. It shared
53.7 percent of the total agricultural output. Production went
up for palay by 7.1 percent and corn by 15.4 percent.
• Livestock production, which accounted for 17.3 percent of the
total agricultural output, contracted by 8.5 percent. Hog
production declined by 5.2 percent.
PERFORMANCE OF THE PHILIPPINE AGRICULTURE
(APRIL – JUNE 2020)

• Poultry decreased by 4.7 percent in output. It contributed 13.0


percent to total agricultural production. Production was down
for chicken by 7.8 percent.
• Fisheries production grew by 0.9 percent, and it shared 16.0
percent in the total agricultural output. Major fish species such
as Bali sardinella, skipjack, and roundscad posted output
increments at 45.7 percent, 19.6 percent, and 18.6 percent,
respectively.
• At current prices, the value of agricultural production
amounted to PhP 439.8 billion. This was 4.6 percent higher
than the previous year’s level.
