Easing Bedtime Battles
• Preschoolers need 10 to 12 hours of sleep each day. So it is
important to solve your bedtime battles. Power struggles are
common with preschoolers after a full day of activity
• Stick to a pre-determined bedtime routine, your evening will
be more orderly.
• Give Transition Time: to do this use a timer and positive tome
of voice. Giving transition time works well for other situations.
• Motivates: make it fun; turn it into a game like; beat the timer.
• Special Time: sent some time aside to talk with your child.
Responding to Aggression
• Remove the child from situation.
• Help the child clam down. Offer a
soothing cloth, water to drink or
back rub.
• Teach your preschoolers alternatives
to pushing and hitting by talking
about what happen.
• Take responsibility: start by an
apology.
• Limit Tv time
• Do not fight in front of your child
Dealing with Defiance
• Acknowledge: know your
child’s feelings
• Offer choices: such as What
would you like wear?
• Set Limit: if you child
listens offer rewards like;
extra playtime.

Summary
As parents it is easy to loose our temper and react to our kids in an angry
way, especially when we are tired and stressed. In addition to regret we
usually feel afterwards, therefore good reasons to give up this harsh way of
discipling. The American Academy of Pediatrics has concluded that using
physical punishment like spanking, threatening, putdowns can be harmful
to the child. There is a better way to guide our children’s behavior called
Positive Discipline. It works by teaching children acceptable behavior in a
consistent loving way by using age appropriate parenting technique's .
