SLEEP CYCLE
Scientists used to believe that one someone is asleep
their brains and bodies would go into “shutdown”
mode. However, with research it has been found that
this is not the case and that your brain is actually very
active when you’re asleep.
There are 4 stages of sleep, as stated by the American
Academy of Sleep Medicine, these stages are defined
based on the measurement of electrical activity in the
brain using an EEG (Electroencephalogram).
All 4 stages make up one sleep cycle which lasts
about 90 – 110 minutes.
On average an adult repeats the cycle 4/5 times a night.
