IMPORTANT ?
Ensure life continues on Earth( Generations of animals populate the Earth, if one
species of organism is lost it affects the Ecosystem negatively )

Ensure there is food for other life forms on Earth ( there will always be a
population of animals etc for others to hunt /eat.

Without reproduction ,there will be NO LIFE

There are two types of Reproduction

TYPES OF REPRODUCTION
Asexual Reprod
: Here one parent is needed to produce an offspring. Both good and bad traits
are passed to the generation. This is especially useful in crops.
Some animals like bacteria, yeast, some lizards ,worms can reproduce in this
manner.
Asexual Reproduction in Agriculture

► There are advantages and disadvantages…lets discuss it as a class.

► Ensure you write all the in in your note book . Table form is best.

► Which food crops do you think is propagated this way ?

Sexually Reproduction : requires two parents
and results in the mixture of genes. This may
allow the offspring to survive better in the
environment. Especially in plants and farm
animals.
Using Sexual Reproduction to our
advantage
► Sexual reproduction in Plants ( as with flower and fruit production) is used in the
horticulture industry to produce flowers for commercial purposes
► Seeds are use as food e.g rice, peas, beans

► Seeds are also sow for more crops production.

► Animals are selected to mate some good traits are passed onto the offspring

► A cow with good milk productions will be mated with a bull that is resistant to
disease

► Humans generally choose the “best” partner to have children with…
