Displaced Children in the World

o Worldwide, nearly 31 million children have been

forcibly displaced at the end of 2018 (UNICEF, 2020)
A planned and voluntary journey may offer new
opportunities for children
Unfortunately, forced migration intensifies the
vulnerability of children who are already in precarious
situations.
 Where the world’s refugees come from
"Two countries – Syria and South Sudan – account for
nearly half of all child refugees in the world; three-
quarters of all child refugees come from only seven
countries”.(Unicef,2020)

Storytelling in Global Children’s Literature: Its Role in the
Lives of Displaced Child Characters
LINDA T. PARSONS
• "Storytelling in global children’s literature has implications
for students who have been displaced, for students who are
learning about displacement through literature, and for
those of us who are teachers“.(Parsons,2016 p.25)
• “Teachers who truly listen to displaced children’s stories
may help them regain their voices, develop trust and a
sense of safety, and envision possible futures.”
(Parsons,2016,p.26)
