 Let’s have a short recap:

The other day I presented the PPT about the visual art and
that’s found in letter A

tools, to create work of an appropriate quality.
For today, let’s talk about the Zen Art, which in letter B

(doodle, mandala, and zentangle)
.
Objective of ULOb – Week 4-5
Create a masterful form of zen art
(doodle, mandala, and zentangle)

ZEN ART
Let us start the discussion!~
What is Zen Art?
 Zen art” is used in two ways
 1. when an art form is done at the same time as,
or as a focus for, any traditional Zen exercise
(meditation, mantra recitation, etc.)
 2. it's a way of doing art which in the long term
reveals insights into the nature of reality or
consciousness
But in this subject , Zen art here is focused to its
kinds which are the doodle, mandala, and
zentangle. Now let us identify each.
What is DOODLE ART?
 Doodle Art. Doodling are most often
associated with young children and
toddlers, because their lack of hand–eye
coordination and lower mental
development often make it very difficult
for any young child to keep their coloring
attempts within the line art of the subject.
Despite this, it is not uncommon to see
such behavior with adults, in which case
it is generally done jovially, out of
boredom.
Let us see some examples of doodling art.
Have you experience this art activity before?

Hoping so, that you have had, and this is it!!

Thing to ponder on DOODLE ART!
Doodles are simple drawings that can have
concrete representational meaning or may
just be abstract shapes. When
you doodle while you are doing something
else like talking on the phone, sitting at
school or in a meeting, you may start to
scribble different shapes, patterns, and
drawings on the paper before you.
This is one way on how to understand doodle
art.
The 2nd kind of Zen art is Mandala
What is Mandala Art?
 Mandala – is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Asian
cultures.
A mandala is an intricate abstract design that is usually
circular. In fact, "mandala" is a Sanskrit word that means
"circle". Mandalas generally have one identifiable center
point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes and
forms. Further, it contains organic forms or repetitive
geometric patterns, operating from a central point
outwards, they can be colored and can be very simple or
hugely intricate.

Let’s have an examples on the next slide.

To add on……
 Mandalas are created with a purpose in mind,
e.g., wholeness, connection, intentions, the
creator should focus on their use as they draw.
The creator may feel like using certain words,
shapes or patterns while drawing, just let it flow.
They can also contain recognizable images that
carry meaning for the person who is creating it. In
essence, mandalas represent the connection
between our inner worlds and outer reality.
Designing your own mandalas can be both
inspirational and therapeutic.
Examples of Mandala’s Art
Something to remember on Mandala’s Art
 The term mandala describes
a basic pattern of geometric shapes
contained within a circle that has immense
spiritual potency as a representation of the
metaphysical cosmos. This sounds very
complex, and it is, so there are many
different kinds of mandalas that deal with
different sets of symbolism.
The 3rd kind of Zen Art is Zentangle.
What is Zentangle?
 Zentangle – is a compound word. Zen means meditation
and tangle means patterns.
 The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn,
relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images
by drawing structured patterns. We call these
patterns, tangles. You create tangles with
combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-
curves and orbs. These simple shapes are the
"Elemental Strokes" in all Zentangle art

 The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn,
relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful
images by drawing structured patterns. We
call these patterns, tangles. You create
tangles with combinations of dots,
lines, simple curves, S-curves and orbs.
