INCISORS
• The word incisor comes from the Latin word "incidere,"
or "to cut.“
• The sharp edges on the bottom of incisor teeth are
designed for cutting food.
• They look flat, but incisors are actually slightly convex
• Another trait of an incisor tooth is it has one single long
root,

PRIMARY UPPER CENTRAL INCISORS
• Central incisor teeth are in a mesial position, or at the
very front and center of your jaw
• Maxillary and mandibular central incisors are smaller in
size as compare to permanent teeth
PRIMARY UPPER CENTRAL INCISORS
Labial Aspect:
Crown:
• Smooth labial surface
• Mesio-distal diameter is greater
than the cervico-incisal length
• Incisal edge is nearly straight
• Developmental line are usually not
seen
PRIMARY UPPER CENTRAL INCISORS
Lingual Aspect:
Crown:
• Well developed
marginal ridges
• Highly developed
cingulum
• Lingual fossa is small
• Cingulum is large
PRIMARY UPPER CENTRAL INCISORS
Proximal Surfaces:
• Small incisal edges
• Crowns wider from cervical third because of larger
cingulum
• Mesial and distal aspects are similar, Triangular
PRIMARY UPPER LATERAL INCISORS
• Similar to central incisors from all aspects
• Disto-incisal angles of crown are more rounded as
compare to central incisors
PRIMARY LOWER CENTRAL INCISORS
Labial Aspect:
Crown:
• Flat surface with no
developmental grooves
• Smooth labial surface
• Mesial and distal sides are
tapered from contact areas
towards the cervical line
• Cervico-incisal are bit longer
then mesio-distal
PRIMARY LOWER CENTRAL INCISORS
Lingual Aspect:
Crown:
• Almost similar to their
counter parts on their
central incisors
• Cingulum is more offset to
distal
• Prominent marginal ridges
PRIMARY LOWER CENTRAL INCISORS
Proximal Aspect:
• Crown is triangular
• Incisal ridge is rounded
• Mesial surface of crown is
convex and smooth
• Lingual margin is ‘S’
shaped
INCISORS
PRIMARY LOWER LATERAL INCISORS
• Fundamental outline are similar to
those of central incisors
• These two teeth supplement each
other in function
• Cingulum is not that prominent

PERMANENT UPPER CENTRAL INCISORS
Labial Aspect:
Crown:
• Maxillary central incisors are the
largest and often most prominent of
the incisor teeth.
• Widest mesio-distally
• Squared or rectangular
• Sharp mesial and rounded distal
outline
• Mameleons on newly erupted
incisors
PERMANENT UPPER CENTRAL INCISORS
Lingual Aspect:
Crown:
• Prominent marginal ridges
• Cingulum is prominent
• Lingual fossa is more concave
• Deep developmental groove at
side of cingulum
• Gives scoop like form of crown
PERMANENT UPPER CENTRAL INCISORS
Proximal Aspect:
• Crown is wedge shaped or triangular
• Distal and mesial surfaces closely resemble
• Distal surface is generally smaller then mesial
PERMANENT UPPER LATERAL INCISORS
• Smaller in dimension from max centrals
• Relatively narrower mesiodistally
Variations:
• Peg shaped laterals
PERMANENT UPPER LATERAL INCISORS

• Large pointed tubercle as part of cingulum

• Deep developmental grooves
PERMANENT UPPER LATERAL INCISORS
• Twisted roots
• Missing entirely
• Distorted crowns
PERMANENT LOWER CENTRAL
INCISORS
Labial Aspect:
Crown:
• Crown outline is trapezoidal
• Sharp mesio-incisal (MI) and
disto-incial (DI) angles
• Labial surface is smooth
• Narrows down to the convexity
of root at cervical portion
Root:
• Root curves in a small pointed
taper usually distally
PERMANENT LOWER CENTRAL
INCISORS
Lingual Aspect:
Crown:
• Outline is trapezoidal
• Marginal ridges are
prominent near incisal
edges
• Concave from incisal edge
to the cervical line
• Cingulum is smooth and
barely visible
PERMANENT LOWER CENTRAL
INCISORS
Proximal Aspect:
• Lingual margin is ‘S’ shaped
• Cervical line on mesial and sital
aspect is convex incisally
• Labial outline is almost straight
