What’s our overall
objective?
If you’re like most people and are in need of a job, you need to be professional and
give a great first impression. Of course, when applying you submit you application with
your resume but to give you a greater chance of being accepted, you should submit a cover
letter. And luckily for you, that is my objective for today!
Before we begin...
To write a cover letter, you must understand what a cover letter is. A cover letter
is a letter written to a hiring manager explaining why you believe you are the right
person for the job. You explain the perks of hiring you and your skills.

I believe that writing a cover letter will get you a better shot at getting the job
you want. I know a few friends who submitted a cover with their resume explaining
why they would be perfect and, thanks to the cover letter, they got the job. And now
it’s your turn! Let’s learn how to make a cover letter!
Step One: Sign in to your Google Account
and open Google docs to start a new
document.
Go to google a sign in. If you don’t have a google account then I suggest you make
one. After signing in, go to the upper right and click on google apps. You should see your
account, google docs, gmail, drive, etc. but for now we are focusing on google docs.

After clicking on google docs, you should see a blank white rectangle with a plus
sign on it labeled “Blank” at the bottom. Click it! Now you are ready for your next step.
Step Two: Research the job you want to
apply for and take notes.
Knowing more about the job will justify not only your knowledge about the job but if
you even want the job. Open a new tab. The first thing you want to research is the jobs
mission statement (motto) which can be located on the About Us page on the jobs website.
By seeing there website, you can see what their goals are. And, if possible, speak to an
employee to get even more information. Let’s move on to our next step!
Step Three: Starting your cover letter!
Finally it is time to start your cover letter. Open a new tab and go to google docs.
Open a new blank document. It be best to rename your document to something more
professional. After the document is opened, go to the top left to rename it. You can name it
“____’s Cover Letter” or something simple. Before writing anything, you must first put
your contact. Put your first and last name then put your email address. You should also add
your phone number and home address. Before you right anything else, you must address
the person you are talking to so you can sound more professional. If you know the hiring
manager’s name, that’s perfect! But if you don’t, just write “Dear Hiring Manager”. Now
we are ready for the next step!
Step Four: Writing your Cover Letter!
*Note: These paragraphs should be brief and simple and not too wordy!!!

Your first paragraph explains why you want to apply for the job and where you of
them. It would also be a good place to put what their motto means to you.

Your second paragraph should explain what you can offer as an employee and how
you will play a part in helping the company reach their goals. And be sure to add any
volunteer work or previous job experience to make yourself look good.

Your final paragraph is you thanking the hiring manager for taking the time to read
your cover letter and be show enthusiasm and confidence.
Step Five: Wrapping up your Cover Letter.

Wrap up your Cover letter by writing “Sincerely, “ or “Thank You! “

As I said before, writing a cover letter will boost your chances of getting the job or
career you want! Just be sure that the cover letter fits the job title. But, besides that, your
finished! I have an example for you in the next slide to better your understanding of what
the cover should look like.
Cover Letter for Chick-Fil-A
Here is a clear example of the what final
product of a cover letter should look like. It’s
very simple, not to wordy, the letters aren’t too
big or too small. This is ready to be sent to a
hiring manager right away. And be sure to
proof read EVERYTHING before you send it
to the recipient.
Cover Letter Reflection...
➢ I selected this lesson because I believe it is very important that people know how to
make a cover letter. Everyone is in need of a job, especially these days.
➢ This lesson took about a good week to finish. It wasn’t that hard.
➢ What I learned was how to make a cover letter, aswell! :)
➢ I can use this skill (which I have recently) to apply for future jobs.
➢ I recommend learning this skill because not many people know what to do when it
comes to applying for jobs and this is the greatest advice you can recieve for
applying for jobs.
