1 An office worker.
I’m going to tell you about a type of work I would never even consider applying
for.
Being an office worker is one of the most frightening ideas to me. I would never
do a 9 to 5 job that requires sitting in a cubicle all day long. Doing the same things
every day seems really tedious and soul-crushing to me. I would feel stressed and
hopeless doing so. I do not want to have a monotonous work life at all.
Additionally, I believe, there is no sense of achievement involved in this type of
career and it does not offer too much future either. The thought of being shouted
at when something is not done correctly is appalling to me. (opportunities to get
promoted and climb the career ladder)
Moreover, I feel like sitting around all day takes a heavy toll on my body and
mind. I would also never join the so called “rat race” and have an ordinary job
anyways. There is just not enough reward in it for me.
2 Journalist
When I was little, my mom used to make me become a journalist because she
thought that it would be a stable and fancy career. However, when I grow up I’ve
realized that becoming a journalist is the last thing I want to do for many reasons.
The biggest reason would be many reporters and journalists nowadays are focusing
on spreading their opinions rather than reporting original news.
Fake news and sensational news has become more common than ever before.
Governments use journalism as a tool to spread propaganda and manipulate
their citizens for political purposes. When I was studying in college, I read a
book about the fundamental rules of journalism. However, contemporary
reporters are showing no work ethics when they’re performing their jobs. They are
supposed to stay neutral and not biased in all situations but the opposite seems to
be true. This has sadden and disappointed me and I have lost trust in this
industry.
3 Accountant
I’m a right-brained person. That means I’m not analytical in my ways of
thinking. I would say that I’m more suitable for creative and artistic jobs. (I
would say that creative and artistic jobs are my forte)
I’m hopeless at maths and numbers so I don’t want to do any jobs that involve
formulas, shapes or number-related concepts. I just can’t calculate things
quickly in my head and find working with numbers a frustrating and stressful
experience.
So personally I think the least satisfying job would be an accountant.
In order to do this job, I must have a bachelor degree in Accounting which I
obviously do not possess. I also do not have the ability to collect and analyze
significant amounts of numbers accurately. I think I would just mess up
everything and cause a lot of financial troubles for my company.
In addition, I would say I’m a person who looks for challenges and a sense of
achievement. And accounting is a really monotonous job with mediocre salary. I
would feel stressed and hopeless if I had to pursue it as my career.
Follow up questions:
1 What kinds of jobs are boring?
*Bus Driver: As a bus driver you have to drive on the same route every day. Your
job is to drive for hours staring at the road which may be quite tedious
*Security Guard: A security guard’s job is to take care of the property. If you are
a security guard, you’ll be looking at the CCTV camera monitor for hours and do
patrolling around. Usually people doing this type of work feel bored and lack
motivation.
monotonous
offers no future to me
no career opportunities
no sense of achievement
doesn’t help me progress in life
does not present challenges.
2. Why do some people stay in boring jobs?
some aren’t willing to change
will not step outside their comfort zones
lack education
they don’t have better options
are not very capable
Many people decide to stay in dull jobs because they like to do easy and low-
pressure jobs. This is because interesting jobs require more mental or physical
effort.
Some others do not have any other options. They can’t leave their monotonous
jobs because they do not have enough academic qualifications or qualities or
talents to apply for the jobs of their dreams.
3. What can people do to stop feeling bored?
- look for challenges
- make more friends at work
- set goals to achieve
- try team sports with co-workers
- find a hobby
- find an enjoyable occupation

Overcoming boredom can be difficult, but there are ways you can make a dull
situation more entertaining
*Create new challenges:
A life without challenges is boring.
Many times people are bored because they don’t have a challenge — things are too
easy or routine. So instead of waiting for someone to create a challenge for them,
they should do it themselves. You know, explore new projects, set personal goals
and pursue them.
4. What kinds of jobs have higher pay?
Surgeons, lawyers, engineers or scientists deserve to earn a lucrative salary
because all these jobs require years of study, research and lots of experience.
Besides, people who are multilingual will be highly needed in the future as the
world is becoming more and more international.
5. Do technology made life good or worst? Why?
Technology makes tasks easier, but it does not make our lives easier. I do love
technology but I am starting to believe that it does more harm than good. I
remember when I was a kid and had to actually go outside and play. You do not
even see children outside playing anymore.
And the Internet prevents our brains to exercise and to think critically. The Internet
is making us lose the ability of our brain to perform other functions like
remembering or reading deeply.
6 Can robots replace human workers? Why?
First, creative jobs like scientist, novelist and artist.
Complex and strategic jobs, like executive, diplomat and economist.
Empathetic jobs like teacher, nanny and doctor
7 Do you think it is important to spend time with your colleagues/clients?
Yeah sure. Getting along with co-workers helps improve teamwork and
collaboration because normally when people know one another well, they are
much more likely to work well together.
Besides, having good relationships with colleagues also increases productivity. By
feeling more connected to their place of employment, workers naturally want to try
harder to help keep the company going and to help it grow.
8 Do you agree that the building we work in, is more important than the
colleague we work with?
I agree with the latter. I believe that working with supportive and positive co-
workers will help inspire me and give me motivation to overcome the difficulties
and challenges.
