MR.ADITYA PURI,MD,HDFC BANK.


He is perhaps the only CEO who doesn’t carry a mobile phone, but
has led HDFC Bank to a market capitalization of Rs. 1 Lakh Crore.

In times of financial tsunamis and uncertainty, Indian banks were


caught between the headwinds of a global financial crisis and a
slowing domestic economy.

He made sure HDFC grew steadily while maintaining margins. In the


end the bank emerged from the slowdown as the youngest company
to reach a market capitalization of Rs 1,00,000 crore, after Bharti.

His focus on the core business has driven the banks growth,while
his relationship skills helped put together a crack team to start a
bank from scratch.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Punjab University and is


an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

He has been the Managing Director of the Bank since September 1994.
He has about 36 years of banking experience in India and abroad.

Prior to joining the Bank, Mr. Puri was the Chief Executive Officer of
Citibank, Malaysia from 1992 to 1994.

Mr. Puri has over 30 years of experience in both domestic and


international banking.

He serves as Deputy Chairman of Indian Banks' Association.

He was awarded the Asian Banker Leadership Achievement Award 2006


for India.
Way back in 1994, it was Housing Development Finance Corporation chairman Deepak
Parekh who had spotted Aditya Puri to head the new born HDFC Bank.

Leaving the gloss of Citibank, Mr.Aditya Puri came back to Mumbai.

Today the bank has over 115 branches and more than 2300 employees countrywide.

In CitiBank, he has handled various assignments in India covering Operations, Credit and
Marketing and finally Country Head for India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh for
Institutional Banking.

Aditya Puri planned to use technology in a big way - and he did.

It has 1.2 million customers. It is India's largest privately owned bank.

the world.

Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse and analysts have ranked it as one of India's fastest-growing and best-
managed banks.

Euromoney and Finance Asia awarded it 'Best Bank-India' for 2 consecutive years
