 History of TSC, JU
Jahangirnagar University was formally launched on 12 January 1970 under the
Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance, 1970 and this day is observed
as University Day. Initially, it was named Jahangirnagar Muslim University, and the
plan was to operate the university like Aligarh Muslim University. But after the
independence of Bangladesh, its name changed to Jahangirnagar University under
the Jahangirnagar University Act' 1973

There are 34 departments under six faculties.

There are four institutes for specialised research and training.

TSC.
The teachers-student centre has the prime role in improving the relationship between
the teachers and the students of the campus. It is a cultural hub for the university.
Cultural groups usually perform drama and cultural programmes at Muktomoncho.
Shaptam Chayamancha is a great attraction for students.

 History of TSC, DU
Dhaka University is the biggest and oldest University of Bangladesh. It was established in 1921. This
is called ‘Oxford of the East’. It covered a big area of Dhaka city with a number of important
institutes.The University started it’s activities with 3 faculties,60 teacher,877 students and 3
dormitories for the students .At present University consists of 13 faculties,11 institute,20 residential
hall,3 hostel,51 research centers.The number of students and teacher has risen to about 38000 and 2000
respectively.However there are many famous important monument and statue which are linked with
Bangali tradition, culture, history as well as the democratic movement of the nation.

TSC is the most famous cultural place of Dhaka established on 1961. In main complex building has
different type recreational and cultural facilities. The Center includes cafeteria, auditorium, library,
reading room, art and music room for clubs and stage, swimming pool, provision store, bookshop and
bank. However just outside have “DUCH”, the central café of the university, just back of “Shuparjito
Shadinota” ( earned freedom ) statue.

TSC is famous for arranging important discussion, procession, study circle and event of contemporary
socio-cultural and political issues. However the clubs and students regularly organize cultural show,
rehearsal, training program, recreational event, seminar, symposium and fare-well etc. It is a meeting
place of alternative think-tanker, teacher-student as well as activists and practitioners.

Science its inception TSC is playing vital role in socio-cultural development as well as movement for
democracy in Bangladesh. Moreover it is famous for “ADDA” (gossiping) and dialogue on
contemporary local and global issue, emphasis to democracy and human rights.

ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বাংলাদেশের বৃহত্তম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। ১৯২১ সালে এটি প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। এটাকে
বলা হয় “প্রাচ্যের অঙ্ফোর্ড ”। এটি ঢাকা শহরের একটি বিরাট এলাকা জুড়ে অবস্থিত।
গণগ্রন্থাগার, জাতীয় জাদুঘর ও শহীদ মিনারের(শহীদদের স্মতি ৃ স্তম্ভ) মত অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ও
ঐতিহ্যবাহী স্থাপনা এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এলাকায় অবস্থিত। এছাড়া অনেক স্মৃতিবাহী ভাষ্কর্যও এই
এলাকায় নির্মিত হয়েছে যেগুলো বাংলার ঐতিহ্য, সংস্কৃতি ও বিভিন্ন সময়ের স্বাধীন স্বত্তা,
সার্বভৌমত্ব, অধিকার আদায়ের লক্ষ্যে আন্দোলন সংগ্রামের স্মতিৃ কে বহন করছে।
টিএসটি(শিক্ষক-ছাত্র মিলনায়তন) ঢাকার একটি বিখ্যাত সংস্কৃতির লালনকেন্দ্র, যা ১৯৬৬ সালে
পতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। এই টিএসসি ভবনে বিনোদন ও সাংস্কৃতিক কর্মকান্ডের সুবিধা আছে।
এখানে ক্যাফেটেরিয়া, অডিটোরিয়াম, লাইব্রেরী, শিল্প ও সংগীত কক্ষ, ষ্টেজ, সুইমিংপুল, বইয়েরর
দোকান ও ব্যাংক ইত্যাদি সুবিধা আছে।
 
নানা ধরনের শিক্ষা কর্মসূচি, উৎসব, জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জ াতিক সেমিনার, নবাগত ও বিদায়ীদের
সমর্্বধনা অনুষ্ঠান, বিভিন্ন বিভাগ ও প্রতিষ্ঠানের ওরিয়েন্টেশন কর্মসুচি এখানে আয়োজিত
হয়। মোট কথা বাংলাদেশী শিল্প ও সংস্কৃতিতে টিএসসি একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূ মিকা পালন করে।
বিভিন্ন সাংস্কৃতিক সংগঠন এখানে শিল্প সংস্কৃতি, নাটক ইত্যাদির উপর গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কর্মশালার
আয়োজন করে থাকে। মিটিং ও বিভিন্ন অনুষ্ঠানের রিহার্সেলের জন্য এটি উত্তম স্থান। ছাত্র-
ছাত্রীদের আড্ডার জন্যও এই স্থান অত্যন্ত জনপ্রিয়। প্রায় সারাদিনই প্রচু র সংখ্যক ছাত্র-ছাত্রী
এখানে সমসাময়িক বিষয়ে আড্ডার জন্য ভীড় জমায়। সংস্কৃতি আন্দোলন এর পাশাপাশি শুরু
থেকেই এটি বাংলাদেশের ঐতিহাসিক ও গনতন্ত্রিক আন্দোলনে অগ্রণী ভু মিকা পালন করে
আসছে।
