Hastelloy

is the registered trademark name of Haynes

International, Inc. The trademark is applied
as the prefix name of a range of twenty two
different highly corrosion-resistant metal
alloys loosely grouped by the metallurgical
industry under the material term
“superalloys” or “high-performance alloys
.
• The predominant alloying ingredient is typically
the transition metal nickel. Many nickel-based
steel alloys exhibit high resistance to corrosion,
and Hastelloy is one of the best Other alloying
ingredients are added to nickel in each of the
subcategories of this trademark designation and
include varying percentages of the elements
molybdenum, chromium, cobalt, iron, copper,
manganese, titanium, zirconium, aluminum,
carbon, and tungsten.
FUNCTION
• The primary function of the Hastelloy super
alloys is that of effective survival under
high-temperature, high-stress service in a
moderately to severely corrosive, and/or
erosion prone environment where more
common and less expensive iron-based
alloys would fail,

HASTELLOY X
• Nickel, chromium, molybdenum and iron
make Hastelloy® X one of the world's
most popular proprietary alloys. Its
uncommon resistance to oxidation,
combined with exceptional heat resistance
and fabricability, make this steel a widely
sought-after blend in a number of
industries.
Strong and Oxidation
Resistance
• HASTELLOY® X alloy is a nickel-chromium-iron-
molybdenum alloy that possesses an exceptional
combination of oxidation resistance, fabricability
and high-temperature strength. It has also been
found to be exceptionally resistant to stress-
corrosion cracking in petrochemical applications.
X alloy exhibits good ductility after prolonged
exposure at temperatures of 1200, 1400, 1600°F
(650, 760 and 870°C) for 16,000 hours.
Heat-Treatment

• Wrought forms of HASTELLOY X alloy are

furnished in the solution heat-treated
condition unless otherwise specified. X
alloy is solution heat-treated at 2150°F
(1177°C) and rapid cooled. Bright
annealed products are cooled in hydrogen.
Available in Convenient
Forms
• HASTELLOY X alloy is available in the form
of plate, sheet, strip, billet, bar, wire,
covered electrodes, pipe and tubing.
Easily Fabricated

• HASTELLOY X alloy has excellent forming and

welding characteristics. It can be forged and,
because of its good ductility, can be cold
worked. X alloy can be welded by both manual
and automatic methods including shielded metal
arc (covered electrodes), gas tungsten arc (TIG)
and gas metal arc (MIG). The alloy can also be
resistance welded.
Useful for Aircraft, Furnace and
Chemical Process Components

• X alloy has wide use in gas turbine engines for

combustion zone components such as transition
ducts, combustor cans, spray bars and flame
holders as well as in afterburners, tailpipes and
cabin heaters. it has unusual resistant to
oxidizing, reducing and neutral atmospheres.
HASTELLOY X alloy is also used in the chemical
process industry for retorts, muffles, catalyst
support grids, furnace baffles, tubing for
pyrolysis operations and flash drier components
Hastelloy C276
• Hastelloy® C-276 is one of the most
corrosion-resistant steels in the world.
This powerful alloy has strong resistance
across the board to oxidizers such as wet
chlorine gas, hypochlorite, and chlorine
dioxide. And with the legendary
Hastelloy® heat resistance, this alloy finds
its way into a number of aerospace
industrial applications
