Monogamous: being married to one person at a time


Marriage consensus

■ The willingness of the couple to surrender and accept one another, only consensus
makes marriage exist.
Conditions for the validity of a Catholic marriage

■ Free from canonical obstacles such as underage, impotence, kidnapping and others
■ There is an agreement to get married
■ Celebrated in Forma Canonica: celebrated by the presence of Church officials and 2
witnesses
The authority of the Church over the marriage of
Catholics

Catholics are bound by ecclesiastical law. If there is a marriage between Catholics and non-
Catholics, they must follow ecclesiastical laws
Mixed marriage

■ Marriage between a Catholic and a non-Catholic.


■ There are 2 types, namely marriage between Church and religion
■ To get permission to marry a Catholic must promise to remain Catholic and teach his
children Catholic teachings.
■ They are forbidden to get married double after catholic marriage
■ Usually mixed marriages are more difficult to consider legal by Indonesian law
