Gas Lift is the method of artificial lift

which utilizes an external source of high
pressure gas for supplementing
formation gas to reduce the bottom hole
pressure and lift the well fluids. All
version of gas lift use high pressure
natural gas injected in the well stream at
some specifics down-hole depth.

To recap we use gas lift ...

Why is gas I. To enable the well that will not flow naturally to
Lift produce
II. To increase production rates in natural flowing

III. To kick off wells that will later flow naturally
IV. To remove fluids from gas wells.

Gas Lift system

Gas lift system is a closed system which

requires:
1. a high pressure source of gas.
2. surface controls.
3. subsurface equipment.
4. flow lines.
5. separation and storage equipment.
6. compressors, and GLVs.
The effectiveness of a gas lift system
depends on appropriate design of all
these components.

 There are two basic types of gas

lift used in the oil industry. They
(1)
are called continuous flow gas lift CONTINUOUS
and intermittent gas lift. The two FLOW GAS
types operate on different LIFT
principles and it is always
advisable to treat them as two
separate subjects

• Continuous injecting gas into

the tubing or casing at a
predetermined depth.

Type of Gas • It will be usually be more

lift efficient for wells that
produce at high rates.

(2)
INTERMITTENT GAS
LIFT

• Injecting of high pressure • Because of its cyclic nature,

gas into the tubing at intermittent lift is best suited
sufficient volume and to wells that produce at
pressure to lift the fluid head relative low rates.
accumulated above the valve
with maximum velocity

1. Gas lift is relatively inefficient due to the compressor

2. More economic on large scale projects (multi-well}
3. Adequate gas supply is needed throughout life of project.
4. Needs larger tubing / casing for high rates
5. High difficulty because of low gravity and friction.

• Overview about our presentation is that artificial lift used for

increasing production rate, but your choice for artificial lift
might not be the method that gives you the highest
production rate. And Artificial lift have several method.
• Gas lift is one of the artificial method which have two type.
Summery Which are Continuous flow gas lift and Intermittent gas lift
• Gas Lift is second most used artificial lift method best
suitable for the wells where the reservoir pressure is low.
