31 (a) Given p = 2x + y, q = x – y and m = 2p + q.

(i) Express m in terms of x and y.


(ii) Calculate the value of m if x = -3 and y = 7.

Answer :

(i) m = 2p + q (ii) m = 5 (-3) + 7


= 2(2x+y) + (x-y) = -15 + 7
= 4x + 2y + x – y = -8
= 4x + x + 2y – y
m = 5x + y
(b)Diagram 15 shows a square PQRS.X and Y are two points which moves in the square.

(i) draw the locus of X such that XP = XR.
