AIM:

The IBBO technique to identify the optimal power

rating and position of distribution generation (DG)
in radial distribution networks.
OBJECTIVE:
ABSTRACT:
• Optimal reactive power flow is an optimization problem with one or more objective of minimizing the active
power losses for fixed generation schedule.
• The control variables are generator bus voltages, transformer tap settings and reactive power output of the
compensating devices placed on different bus bars.
• Biogeography- Based Optimization (BBO) technique has been applied to solve different kinds of optimal
reactive powerflow problems subject to operational constraints like power balance constraint, line flow and
bus voltages limits etc.
• IBBO technique to identify the optimal power rating and position of distribution generation (DG) in radial
distribution networks. The simulation studies areimplemented in MATLAB software for IEEE 33-bus and
IEEE 69-bus radial distribution test networks.
INTRODUCTION:

• Power stations generate electric power which is transmitted to the interconnected large grid
and afterward distributed to the consumers through overhead frameworks and substations.
• It is notable that the aggregate power produced at the power statios not equal to the total
power utilized by the end consumers, this is because of the reason that the some measure of
electric power dropped during power dispatch.
• Inferable from very large resistance/reactance proportion property of the power distribution
systems [1], the greater part of total power loss in line conductors is made out of I2 R.
BBO TECHNIQUE

• Biogeography is defined as the investigation of dispersion of biological species in ecosystem and

it can analogous to the mathematicatl optimization problems in the field of engineering, medical
science, economic science, sport, business enterprise, town future planning and so on.
• In context of biogeography, a habitat is defined as an Island (area) that is geographically
isolatedfrom other Islands. Geographical areas that are well suited as residences for biological
species are said to have a high habitat suitability index (HSI).
• The variables that characterizehabitability are called suitability index variables (SIVs). SIVs can
be considered as the independent variables of the habita and HSI calculation is carried out using
these variables.
ALGORITHM:
IEEE 33-BUSBAR

• The IBBO technique has been implemented on 33-bus system as per the step by step
procedure given in section IV. The solution result obtained from the MATLAB software is
tabulated in Table 1. It is clear that the propose approach shows superiority and advantages
over the existing PIPSO and PSO method in terms of power loss reduction and
computational time
