ACTIVITY 2

Word Tour
Mechanics
1. The class will be grouped into 5.
2. Each group will be given a line from a song.
3. After reading the line of the song, the group will roam
around the room and will find the figure of speech where
it belongs.
4. The figures of speech are attached to the walls around
the room.
5. Once the group has found the figure of speech, they
will detach it and will go back to their chairs.
6. A member from the group will then explain it in front.

ACTIVITY 4
•Directions: Using the figures of speech learned from
the discussion, write a two- stanza poem about how
you should live life to the fullest. Underline the figure
of speech used in the poem. Use all the five figure of
speech discussed in your poem.
•Criteria:
•Content- 10 points
•Use of Figure of Speech – 5 points
•Total – 15 points
IRONY
-the use of words that mean the opposite of
what you really think especially in order to be
funny.
Example:
She is so sexy, her shirt is extra large.
She is so kind, everybody hates her.
ONOMATOPOEIA
- The creation of words that imitate natural
sounds.
Examples:
1. Meow, meow, the cat is crying.
2. Ding dong! The bells is ringing.
ALLITERATION
-The use of words that begin with the same
sound near one another. The repetition of
initial consonant sounds.
Examples:
1. She sells seashells.
2. The bad boy brings the bat.
ASSONANCE
- The use of words with vowel sounds.
Examples:
1. She rises in the bright sky.
LITOTES
- Understatement in which the affirmative is
expressed by the negative of the contrary.
Examples:
1. She is not famous. She is just the president
of the country.
2. John is not rich. He even had mansions and
cars.

Directions: Identify what figure of speech are
the following. Copy and answer.
1. There was a loud crash outside my window.
2. I felt like my sister was a million miles away
when she left for college.
3. The girl looked as cozy as a soft kitten when
she fell asleep.
4. The sun was a glowing ball of fire in the sky.
5. Betty baked a bread with bananas and butter.
