I am Pat!
3
Hey, My name is Pat. My
teacher gave me an assignment
to complete. I am supposed to
write about the changes that I’m
experiencing during puberty.
There are a lot of changes going
on – some good, some not so
good. I’ll talk about some of
each.
4
Here goes. It is weird to get used
to the fact that hair is growing in
new places on my body. When it
first started happening, I was kind
of freaked out. I know it’s normal.
Now, I’m getting used to it. I
bought some shaving cream, and
I’m thinking about shaving once my
hair gets a bit longer.
5
Another change that I worry about now is
body odor. When I was a younger kid, I
could sweat all the time and I never really
smelled that bad. Now, it’s different. I have
to wash more often and I decided to try
wearing antiperspirant. It sure helps.
Washing my face is really important too.
This year, I started to get pimples for the
first time. I was embarrassed about it. It kind
of stinks, but everyone seems to be going
through the same thing. It seems to be pretty
common.
6
There are some good things about
puberty, though. As I get older, my
friends and I get to hang out more than
we used to. I’ve started thinking about
dating and I’ve been spending more
time with this person who I really like.
When we are together, I sometimes get
these new feelings. They feel kind of
strange, but kind of good too.
7
There are a few more things that are
okay about puberty. Teachers don’t baby
me as much as they did when I was
younger. And my parents are starting to
let me do some things on my own.
They’re letting me go to the school
dance next month. So, things are pretty
cool. Well, that’s my paper on puberty.
All and all, things are okay and I’m sure
they will get better as I grow older.
8
Do you think Pat is a boy or girl?
Why did you say so?
What do you call this stage?
What are the changes that happen
during this stage in boys?
What about in girls?
Do you know why puberty happen?
Hormones Hormones play an important role that regulates
the function of a specific organ of the body.
Puberty These are regulating and complex chemical
substances secreted by the endocrine glands
that are carried through the bloodstream to the
target organ in many areas of the body.
The hormones of the reproductive
system carry a specific role
during puberty, ovulation, The reproductive

maturity and the ability to
reproduce. When a female reaches
puberty, egg cells start to develop in
her ovaries that produce the sex
cells. It is also the time when the
body develops the capacity to
conceive. 9

lead several health problems i.e.
sexually transmitted infections
(STIs), human immune virus and
acquired immune deficiency
syndrome (HIV/AIDS), unwanted
pregnancies (especially teenage
pregnancy), unsafe abortions,
emotional disturbances, baby

How could Nene lower

their risks and chances for
an unwanted pregnancy?
People who are sexually active 23
and want to avoid pregnancy
should be aware of their options
when it comes to birth control.
There are many types of
contraception available to help
avoid pregnancy. However, the
only completely reliable method
for avoiding pregnancy is
abstaining from sex.
Abstinence is the only method is the 24
that guarantees no risk of getting
pregnant and protects the teen from
getting any STD's.
However, it is a fact that there are still a
large number of teenagers who will be
involved in sexual relations. For this
reason, it is important that teens be
provided with broad information on
how to do so responsibly using various
contraceptive techniques.
