Introduction
Statement Of Problem
• There are no retrievable studies on normative data of the
BOTMP on Indian children aged between 9 ½ - 14 ½ years.

Aim:
• To establish a normative data for Indian children between 9 ½ -
14 ½ years for BOTMP.

Objectives:
• Establish normative data for BOTMP in children between 9 ½ -
14 ½ years.
• To find out correlations between height, weight, gender and age
on BOTMP values.
Research hypothesis:
• A normative data for Indian population can be established for
BOTMP.
• A correlation can be found between height, weight, gender, and
age for the normative values in BOTMP.

Significance of the study:

• If normative data for Indian children is established then it will be
helpful to compare any abnormal motor performance in Indian
children.
• Along with normative data if correlation is established between
heights, weight, gender, age and BOTMP scores then the
therapist’s confidence will be improved in choosing BOTMP as
an outcome measure in routine clinical and research practice
Assumptions of the study:
• Children will participate to their maximum efficiency during the
study.
• Children will understand the instructions given to them for the
performance of the activities as per the requirements of the
scale.
Operational definitions:
• Bruininks – Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency(BOTMP):
It is an individually administered test that assess the motor
function of children from 4 ½ to 14 ½ years of age. It provides a
comprehensive index of both gross and fine motor skills13.
• Motor Performance:
Motor performance is the change in motor behaviour that
comes from a variety of temporary factors following practice22.

• Normative data:
Normative data is the data characterized what is usual in a
defined population at a specific point or period of time, are of
enormous importance to primary care physicians.20

• Gross motor ability13 :

Gross motor speed: the ability to maintain a high degree of
speed during a brief shuttle run.
Static balance: the ability to maintain the body equilibrium while
stationary.
Performance balance: the ability to maintain body equilibrium
while moving.
Coordinated movements: the ability to coordinate the hands and
feet in simultaneous or sequential movement patterns.
Strength: the ability to perform the tasks requiring certain arm, leg
and abdominal muscles.
Gross and fine motor abilities13:
• Visual – Motor Coordination: the ability to coordinate visual tracking
with both gross and fine motor movements of the arms, hands and
fingers.
Fine motor abilities13:
• Response speed: the speed with which a hand stops a moving
visual stimulus
• Visual motor control: the eye-hand coordination required to perform
a number of paper-and- pencil tasks
• Upper-limb speed and precision: the ability to move the arms and
hands quickly with manipulative dexterity and precision

REVIEW Of LITERATURE
METHODOLOGY
• Study design:
Cross- sectional study

• Sampling method:
Multistage Random sampling.

• Sample size:
120 normal school going children

N = 2(Zα+Zβ)2σ2/δ2
Where
Zα -Significance of the study
Zβ- Power of the study
σ- Standard deviation
δ- Mean
Inclusion criteria:
• Typically developing children of both genders between age
group nine years six months to fourteen years five months.

Exclusion criteria:
• Children with any health related condition will be excluded.
• Uncooperative children.

Tester:
• Tester is a qualified physiotherapist pursuing Master Degree in
Physiotherapy, under the supervision and guidance of associate
professors.
Instruments:
BOTMP kit – It includes examiner’s manual, individual record
forms, student booklet, balance beam, ball with string, wooden
beads, block, boxes, masking tape, peg board, wooden pegs,
black pencils, red pencils, pennies, response speed stick,
scissors, shape cards, shoelace, standing mat, target, tape
measure, tennis ball, testing pad. Along with the test kit two
chairs, stopwatch, table, a calibrated height scale, weighing
machine is required.
