• In reverse chronological include the name of companies you worked for, the
dates you worked there and your position

• Be brief & use Bullet Points

• Cover the last 10 - 15 years at most in detail but do not leave gaps in dates

• Emphasis should be placed on the most relevant position

• Match key responsibilities to job spec early

• List achievements separately to highlight

• Try to include at least one achievement for each of your Roles.

•Keep the font consistent

•White space is not a problem

•Deliver the message of your suitability immediately. Do not make the reader work
to see the relevance of your career to the job in hand.

•Write short sentences & use bullet points

•Keep your CV concise

•Keep the same tense throughout your CV – past tense most widely used

• Save a copy in word format

• Ensure your CV spans your whole career. No missing dates

• Make sure your skills and achievements stand out.

• Correct Information – dates, contact details.

• Question whether your CV looks like a sales brochure – Print it out. Use
page breaks

•Do not use Flashy, Coloured or Decorative fonts.

•Do not put a photo on your CV unless requested.

•Do not use abbreviations, Acronyms or Jargon (HR may


be Gatekeeper).

•Do not mention the reasons for leaving positions.
