THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Location
• The UAE is located in the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf,
bordering Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south, as well as sharing sea borders with
Qatar, Iran and Pakistan.

Population
• UAE has the highest population growth in the Middle East and one of
the highest in the world. 95 % of the population of the Emirates are
people with age younger than 50 years . The largest age group is
people aged 25-29 . Despite the high population growth, the UAE has
one of the world's highest per capita income ( $ 19,000 / year). UAE
occupies 41st place (2007-2008) in terms of HDI ( Human
Development Index ) . In the HDI takes into account life expectancy ,
literacy and its involvement in education, and GDP per capita.
Climate

• Average daily temperature is about 45 ° C in summer. The water


temperature in the Gulf in summer exceeds 33. Annual rainfall
is less than 100 mm. Rains are rare in the UAE ( no more than
7-10 days a year, usually in winter). Winter in the UAE is warm
and sunny. The daily average temperature is around 26 ° C, but
the temperature can drop to 12-15 ° C at night.
Religion
• The United Arab Emirates has a
diverse and multicultural society.
Based on the Ministry of Economy
census in 2005, 76% of the total
population was Muslim, 9% Christian,
and 15% other (mainly Hindu).
According to some sources, between
5-8% of the population are atheist.
People of all faiths or no faith are
given equal protection under the
country's constitution and government
imposes restrictions on spreading
other religions through any form of
media as it is considered a form of
proselytizing.
Agriculture of the UAE

Agriculture provides only 3%
of GDP and employs 7 % of
the population (2000). The
main branches of agriculture:
farming and nomadic herding.
The main areas of agricultural
development are the eastern
part of Ras Al Khaimah, Abu
Dhabi, Sharjah, north-east, of
the coast of the Gulf of
Oman. Mainly figs and
vegetables are grown.
Trade
• The country exports oil and
petroleum products. Total exports
rose from $ 22.6 billion (1993) to
44.9 billion (2002). Besides oil,
important exports - liquefied
natural gas, aluminum, fertilizers,
cement, fresh and dried fish, dates,
pearls. Major exporting countries:
• Japan (29.1%)
• South Korea (10.2%),
• India (5.4%),
• Oman (3.7%),
• Singapore (3.1%),
• Iran (2.2%) (2001).
• The UAE imports machinery and
equipment, vehicles, electronic
equipment and appliances, finished
goods, food, chemicals, plastics,
metal. Major trading partners:

• Japan (6.5%),

• China (6.1%)
• United Kingdom (5.9%),
• South Korea (5.5%) (2001).
Resources

• The UAE is one of the oil-


exporting countries. Oil
reserves of the United Arab
Emirates are about 10 % of the
world reserves. Oil production
exceeds 2.7 million barrels.
About 2.2 million barrels are
exported. The main importers
are countries of Southeast
Asia. Outputs of gold, lead,
copper, sulfur were opened in
the UAE.
