What is Legal Ethics?
• Legal ethics refers to the code of conduct regulating and instructing behavior
of persons within the legal profession. This definition covers not only the
nature of the interaction of the lawyer with the client, but is recognized to
include the duty owed to the wider population.
• The duties and obligations also extend to legal educators who are charged
with the mandate of offering legal education to the public without
discrimination, paralegals and private investigators.

Professional ethics

Following are Ethical Principles, which every Lawyer has to follow in practice:

• Plain questions as examination in chief


• Fair questions in cross-examination

Duties of Judges

 Hear allegations of both prosecuting and defending party.


 Question the witnesses fairly and analyze all the data provided from both
parties.
 Inform the defendant of their rights.
 Judges should remain Impartial and Independent.
 Should impose sentences on defendants if found guilty.

CLIENTS
Responsibilities of Clients

• Client should treat Lawyers and their staff with respect.


• Client must honor the fee agreement as agreed with the Lawyer.
• All bills for services rendered should be paid promptly.
• Telephone calls and other communications will be answered within a
reasonable time frame.
• The client must realize that the lawyer need respect only legitimate
objectives of the client and that the lawyer will notMuhammad

 Provide complete information and all evidences to his/her Lawyer.


 Client should have good communication with Lawyer.
 Client should be honest with all the parties involved (Lawyer, Judge, Jury).
 Client should not personally deal and harm the opposing party.

Rights of Clients
o Clients are entitled to be treated with courtesy and consideration at all times.
o Clients are entitled to your lawyer’s independent professional judgment and
undivided loyalty uncompromised by conflicts of interest.
o Clients are entitled to be charged a reasonable fee.
o Clients are entitled to be kept informed as to the status of your matter and to request
and receive copies of papers. Clients are entitled to sufficient information to allow
you to participate meaningfully in the development of your matter.
o Clients have the right to privacy in your dealings with your lawyer and to have your
secrets and confidences preserved to the extent permitted by law.
o Clients may not be refused representation on the basis of race, creed, color, age,
religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin or disability.
o Clients are entitled to have your attorney conduct himself or herself ethically in
accordance with the Code of Professional Responsibility.

Duties of Juror

• Decide the facts of cases only.


• Take directions relating to law from the Judge.
• Remain Impartial and Independent and remain uninfluenced by any person.
• Keep statements made in the jury room confidential.
