What is an essay?

• Derived from French word-”essayer”.


• Essayer- to attempt or to try.
• It is a short piece of writing with a focus
on a single subject.

• In oxford Dictionary, essay is a short


piece of writing on a particular subject.
Parts of an essay:

INTRODUCTION:
Introduces the topic . Includes an topic and opening hook and
thesis statement

PARAGRAPH 1:
Includes your strongest argument.

PARAGRAPH 2:
Covers second strongest argument

PARAGRAPH 3:
Presents the weakest argument.

CONCLUSION:
Wraps up the essay. Restates the thesis in an unique way.
